Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

Whom would you suggest to be the next coach?

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

I dont want to jump, mike reiss piece on espn boston sums it all up... its still a long season, but there has been no improvement, and this has been the pattern since the afc championship game of 06... it has not imporved , it has taken major steps back... but its not time to hoist belichick to a stake and burn him...

Who would I want to coach...dont know. But take Brady off this team..are they much different then a manning less colts team? Is the team still 5-2? Does another coach also mean another personel evaluator? Does it mean a scheme
That can maybe confuse a qb once in a while. Can a new coach even get more then 1 3 and out a game. You would think naturally that you would get some, but the Pats D is some how so easy to figure out they cant do that.

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

Or maybe he is wrong..

Think of it this way; with the poor personnel that Belichick has acquired, you could switch him and Caldwell from the colts and the pats would be the same. Having Caldwell, just as a for instance, would not make this team any better or worse. Why? Because Brady and Bob pretty much run the offense apparently and nobody could run this defense any more poorly than Belichick is currently.

So my answer, I would almost rather have anyone in order to get some fresh ideas and perspectives in here.

You're right. I hope George Seifert is available.

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

14-2 last year and the Patriots are 5-2 this year. Some Patriots fans are way off the charts on the spoiled meter.

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

Howabout Rod Rust returning as GM with **** Macpherson replacing Bill as HC.

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

Tom brady would make a great coach same day

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

The philosophy did change in 2007, and I think that's why we've been failing in the playoffs so much lately. It has nothing to do with yesterday's loss, which was just an all out failure on both sides. The approach had become more finesse and 1 dimensional on offense which is easier to stop for the top defenses.

We're heading in the right direction with getting the TE's involved now and showing signs of trying to run the ball more but in certain games like BUF and DAL we tend to get away from pounding the ball and just pass/draw to Woodhead. Happened yesterday too, but you can't really fault the playcalling. We had no choice being down double digits alot of the game.

We saw this movie in 2008. The Pats went 11-5 with Matt Cassel at QB.

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

Bill Walsh said it was the dumbest mistake of his life and his hatred of Eddie DeBartalo made him make an irrational decision.

The team is 5-2. I can't imagine what you would be saying if they were 2-5.

Are you brain damaged? The 2008 Patriots had the most talented roster in the league and played against the easiest schedule ever known to man (they faced both the NFC and AFC West in the same season). Even then, they lost pretty much every game they had against a quality opponent (Colts, Steelers, Chargers, Dolphins, Jets), thus failing to make the playoffs.

If we had Brady, the Patriots were a serious threat to go undefeated again that season. On the other hand, put Matt Cassel on this 2011 team and we might not win 5 games.

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

Jeebers.....and I thought I over-reacted.

What I think needs to happen is a little more checks and balances and a little less dictatorship. Additionally, perhaps BB needs to keep some of his arrogance in check and certainly his spiteful side.

1) you change your defensive scheme in the lock out year?
2) whomever is scouting db's is terrible. Just flat out awful.
3) whomever is scouting lbs is terrible. Just flat out awful.
4) whomever is scouting safeties is terrible. Just flat out awful.
5) whomever is scouting wide-outs is terrible. Just flat out awful.
6) CHANGE THE WAY YOU SCOUT PLAYERS!
7) It's obvious that the Bodden release was personal somehow - but what competetive edge did you gain by his release? I mean, his "going thru the motions" was probably better than Moldin playing 100%
8) So, you release Bodden because he's checked out - yet keep Ochocinco who has yet to check in (oh, but he's great in practice...pardom me while I puke).
9) you can't have a decent defense without a few above average players. The Pats have Wilfork - maybe Mayo - and a bunch of garbage. Spend some quality picks on defense!
10) Brady is not getting any younger. He can't bear the burden alone...obviously. Help the guy out, Bill!

Re: Maybe Bill Walsh is right....

The issue here isn't Belichick the coach it's Belichick the coach+GM+defensive coordinator, etc. He is taking on far too much right now because he doesn't trust anyone (seemingly) to run the defense or scout players. That and the drafting has just been ridiculous, I understand value but when you continually pass on elite players for "value" picks that don't pan out you end up with our crap defense.

Unfortunately you can't take any of the individual responsibilities from Belichick, it would have to be all or none and given our roster I don't know if anyone else could get as much out of them.

I agree with this. They really need to get somebody else to run the defense, preferably someone who's proven they can field a competent D in the past few years.

Its not that I dont want BB its just that he has too much power so i dont see much changing. They are turning into the early-mid 90's bruins. Good regular seasons, not built for playoffs.

It's simple, Brady made Bill Belichick not the other way around. The QB has kept this team at the top in spite of the personnel blunders, not the coach.

Gotta love that trade-down strategy, it's working out great.
