Gronkoswki's obvious TD? It would have saved us 2 mins and that horrific fail of an onside kick attempt.

This was huge.

Meh. It wasn't that obvious. I'm sure he was counting on no more tackles within the field of play, but the killer was that Faulk couldn't get in on the next play.

I wanted to know why he didn't challenge the placement of the ball where Gronk reached well over the 1st down marker before going out of bounds.. That really hurt..

It wasn't all that obvious and in that situation, very few would instinctly make the decision to throw the flag and risk losing a timeout, too much going on in your head at that point. I've had my issues with in game awareness at times with this team but in this situation it's hard to imagine them being prepared to make a decision like that.

He stepped out... we didn't get a first down.

I believe they were waiting for the replay. It's tough because it wasn't too obvious. The problem was the onside.

We got the ball back and fumbled anyways

But Brady used all the time until there was zero secs to the next play. Im sure they had time to review upstairs and it clearly shows it was a TD.

BB said in his press conference that the replay wasn't available upstairs.

It was a screwup by the coaching staff. They should have challenged it immediately.

Exactly, and it would have added 30 seconds to the clock on the overturn.

It wasn't a screwup. It wasn't obvious. If BB thought it was he would have challenged. It would be worse if we challenged and lost a T.O

Brady took his time I assume to give us a chance at a replay.

How would stopping the clock rather than confusedly trying to get off a play and watching far too much time tick off the clock have been a "lost" timeout?

He got too confident and thought the Pats could score again anyway. Apparently saving timeouts was more important than a potential touchdown.

If the rule is that only TD's can be automatically challenged, it's the refs fault for not ruling borderline calls TD so that they can look at it.

There was nothing "obvious" about it, especially when you consider that the coach was about 40 yards away looking at it from a straight-on angle, instead of from the goal line.

I just told you what I believe happened in that situation.
It was a tough situation. Not every challenge is won and BB felt we needed all our timeouts.
We took time to get the play off because we were waiting for a replay.

My opinion.

It's not as if we didn't get the ball back. Not challenging was not the nail in the coffin. The onside was.

The refs should do their best to call the plays as they see 'em. They should not say "well, I don't think it was a TD but I'm going to call it a TD so it can go to replay." The initial ruling on the field is very important because many replays are not conclusive. They should never deliberately err to one side.

You are correct. Hmm. The refs definitely did not want us to win because they should have called a TD and looked at it.

If I remember correctly there was a hesitation on the refs part. If he's not definitive in his decision he should use the challenge to his advantage.

Read the bolded part and then re-think what we're discussing here, including the need to save time.
