Really? Wow. Now all they need to do is start Schaub and they might get somewhere.

i never thought mora was any good..too much talk , no smarts. After i saw him last yr on the sidelines with cellphone in his hand(which was funny by the way) trying to sort out his teams playoff chances if the game ended in a tie , showed how un prepared as a coach he is....i guess watching BB we do expect a little higher standard...

I wonder who the next good coach that savior Michael Vick will run out. Mora's problem I think was that Matt Schaub is a better QB but wouldn't go that way.

Please, if there's a God, let it be Jim Mora, Sr.

it would be funnier if mora ends up coaching washington :)

first time iam seeing a fired coach having a press conf...

No one in Atlanta really cares about winning football. They will never have a serious playoff threat with Vick at QB, but they play him to sell tickets. Sort of like an NBA/NFL hybrid team, lots of flash and no substance. As for Mora, he cut his own throat with the University of Washington rant.

Sad to say, but you hit it on the head. The NFL is pouring millions of dollars into foreign markets to promote the game, but it has difficulty filling stadiums domestically in cities like Atlanta and LA.

By the way, the Falcons have never, never had back to back winning seasons in their entire franchise history. Talk about schizophrenic!

problem is now getting rid of Vick is hard..he did sign a 10 yr $100 mil contract didnt he?

Mora Sr. can be a nut job, but he nailed it when he said Vick is a coach killer. Maybe Jr. subconsciously did what he did to get out of dodge before it got any worse. Ownership still has Vick's back because of his Q rating. The longer Jr. stayed there the less influence he was going to have on that franchise. Now he gets to pocket his remaining salary and go be glib on the airwaves while he peruses the landscape and likely fields some more interesting offers.

The fact that Vick is starting at QB is laughable. Unlike other good scramblers in the NFL, he can't pass! But, yeah, it's about marketability. I feel sorry for Mora, who has only had two seasons in the job (I think).

Not only are they pouring money into foreign markets, but they are giving a lot of TV rights to satellite channels. Yeah, that should promote the sport.

Have the Falcons REALLY never had a back to back winning season? Wow.

The Falcons issue is the owner is too close to the QB and the QB simply isn't very good. No coach is going to fix that.

Still, you can't blame the Falcons for dumping Mora after his comments on that radio show a few weeks back clearly showed he had very little regard for the Falcons coaching job.

It was a 10 year $130M deal signed way too early to assess his ability to progress beyond being an athlete. His bonus was $37M, but is was not all signing bonus, he's been getting it somewhat in dribs and drabs. The deal was signed in 2004, just before the season ended, so that several million of it likely got absorbed then. Probably another year or so before the dead cap gets reasonable, but Blank is still too enamored of his star to go that route anyway. The thing that will bring it to a head for the next poor sucker to HC him is he is getting progressively more defensive and entrenched and vocal where his critics or criticism are concerned. Could become a real cancer down there. I bet Lawyer didn't enjoy his stay in Atlanta even as much as the one in Buffalo.

Sure he did. He got to spend time with someone JUST LIKE HIM.....vick. Selfish, arrogant and no TEAM concept....oh except when you are blaming others for the loss instead of looking at your own short comings. (OK the last one is pure vick...don't think Lawyer was ever like that)
