I know a lot of his INTs have been tipped calls/bad luck etc...but the 2 in Dallas were both on him. As good as he's been this year, is he getting a little too confident and forcing balls and thinking "either the receiver will catch it or it will be incomplete?"

He's on pace to throw 17 or 18 and he's never thrown more than 14 in his career and I always considered that his most impressive individual stat and yet another thing that separates him from a Manning or a Brees.

A former Patriots head coach once said, if you're not throwing interceptions than you are not trying hard enough. Or something close to that.

Makes sense, Brady didn't look like he was trying at all last year, it was just too easy.

Probably trying a lot harder this season to repeat last.

:bricks:

Honestly, Brady had a lot of balls last year that should or could have been intercepted. It just turned out that the coin came "heads" on all of those times except four which is really hard to do. There's nothing to worry about with him throwing 12-20 picks this year. He doesn't look like he's forcing throws as much as he was in Weeks 1-3 of last season.

With the way the NFL is heading I think anything below 20 INTs is OK, 15 is great, 10 is wow you're having the ****** year of your life, 5 is GFY ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME? I'LL MAKE YOUR CANTON BUST MYSELF WITH BASIC SKILLS LEARNED FROM POTTERY CLASS!

Regression to the mean. Last year the ints were dropped by the opposition and bounces went Brady's way. This year they bounce up into the hands of the defenders and they gets interceptions.....It all evens out.

It's the TD to INT ratio that matters. We won Superbowls when he threw half as many INTS as TD's... He's on pace for 44 TD's... 2007 and 2010 warped some fans perception of reality.

What are you talking about? The 1st Int was a tipped ball. I think Brady is playing fine but others have stated, after his "luck" with some dropped int's last year. The luck is swinging against him more than not this year.

could be worse

my boy rivers is having his worst season BY FAR

Here are his splits through 6 games throughout his career (excluding the 07 and 10 seasons)...along with his season totals for that year.

01:4/12
02:9/14
03:7/12
04:5/14
05:4/14
06:3/14
09:2/13

I know part of INTs are the way the ball bounces/tipped balls/great plays by the defense/etc., but it would be nice if he didn't finish with any more than 16 (which would be an average of 1 per game.)

1 - There might be a reason he's no longer the Patriot's head coach.

2 - Aaron Rodgers is obviously lazy with his 20tds and only 3ints.

I think we all agree we hope he throws as little INT's as possible. But we should also recognise since 07 how his TD's have also risen sharply and also his TD/INT ration culminating at the ridiculous level it was at last year.

The first pick against Dallas was a continuation of a nasty streak of bad luck. Branch was open across the middle for an easy 1st down throw. The ball was tipped at the line (good play by the DL) and made a beeline right into the hands of Newman who was trailing the play. Newman was struggling to catch up so if that ball was even a foot away, it probably clangs off him incomplete.

Brady has 8 picks. The Miami pick somehow deflected to a lineman lollygagging way behind the play. 2 in Buffalo were ricochets that were practically gift wrapped for defenders. The Jets pick was a gift from Hernandez and we already discussed the first Dallas int. That is 5 of the 8 picks. Total bad luck.

That still leaves 3 picks that were mostly on Brady. The throw to Gronk in Buffalo was the right read but was slightly underthrown. The throw to Ocho was a bad read and the 2nd Dallas pick was a bad decision...though someone (Price?) was open way downfield.

So I really only count 2 bad decisions that have resulted in turnovers. That is still 1 more than Brady had in the entire regular season last year (1 bad throw vs. Baltimore, 1 Hail Mary, 2 Moss-induced). Brady is on an efficiency and execution streak that is pretty amazing. A handful of passes that somehow defy the laws of chance and physics doesn't change that.

Herein lies your answer. As great as Brady was last year, the 4 int's was a fluke. If it's ever happened before for a guy who threw as many times as he did last year, it rarely would... maybe like once every few decades. You throw the ball as much as Brady does, there are going to be INT's eventually.

He was hit while throwing on both Ints in the Dallas game. You could argue he should have eaten the ball instead, but you can't chalk it up to forcing the ball. They were picked because his arm was impeded and the ball didn't go where it was intended.
Edit: First was tipped, second was due to his arm being hit during throw, but point is the same/

You absolutely should count that second pick as forcing the ball. Brady was being chased out of the pocket, off balance, and just threw a lame duck in an area in which there were 4 Cowboys defenders. He should have thrown it away or, at worse, taken the sack.
