Safety is a definite area of need, Is he worth a look? I don't know enough about him to have an opinion one way or another.

At the end of the article:

UPDATE: It’s worth noting that Brandon Meriweather, whom the Bears signed for $3.25 million before the season, hasn’t taken a snap in two weeks.

Really seen him well in two games, against us last year and the game vs the Lions. He was terrible in both, though the latter game's performance can be mitigated by his come back from injury.

I doubt that Belichick would consider him as an upgrade to Barrett, our current #3.

However, I would expect Belichick to consider all available safeties, considering that we have the following players on the 53: Brown, Molden, Moore and Ventrone.

We send our safety rejects to Chicago. Why would we want theirs?

After the start of the season, there's usually nobody major worth adding to the team. Last year was an exception with Branch. This season is not an exception.

Not knowing anything about him, why wouldn't we give him a look? We're in a position to not consider NFL career starting safeties? How do you figure that?

I think the only way he ends up here is if he takes the minimum for the rest of the season and Belichick finally goes back to realizing Sergio Brown is a practice squad safety at best. We passed on a pretty good class of safety free agents during training camp so I'm not sure why we would budge now all of a sudden.

Agreed- when Ihedigbo is starting at safety, we should probably be taking a look at all available players.

Only if they have the potential to make you better. Chris Harris makes Meriweather look like Ronnie Lott.

Bears signed a 2 time probowl safety and got rid of this guy ,even though the said safety and this guy got benched and are not starters now.....so maybe he is decent :D .

Seeing as they were playing together for the first 6 weeks of the season....I'd say Chris Harris makes Meriweather look like good, old crappy Meriweather.

That said, I'd still take Meriweather on this team over Barrett and Brown. Therefore, I would certainly look at Chris Harris. He is no doubt an upgrade over those stiffs.

Harris is cheap with only 5/8ths of his $1.1M salary to be paid by his new team. One big problem aside from the minor detail of his uninspiring safety play is that he does not play on STs.

Yes, cheap. ESPN is saying he only costs $640K.

But also that he has to go through waivers. Who else is out there looking for Safety help? Particularly those who might be in front of us on waiver order. Indy possibly? Miami?

But if he can't beat out a much more expensive Meriweather and can he get up to speed in a new (complex) defense at week 8 ?

I think Pats leave this one alone (after doing due diligence )

he was 2th team all pro last year, i say take a look at him Leigh Bodden sucked with the lions but had a nice year for the pats in 09

I'm pretty sure that Leigh Bodden didn't suck with the Lions.

A bit of a diff CB to S. CBs can play man-man and press or can play soft man/zone coverage.

Bodden had a hard time w/ lions because they didn't match his skills to how they played CBs.

Safeties is a good bit less of a difference (I think anyway) in how they play from scheme to scheme.

So much less likely that if he hit that wall w/ Bears that he would be a much different player with Pats.
