Deep threat wise, Price, Slater and Ocho are MIA.

Ocho clearly isnt happy here in NE. His Twitter life is a shell of what it once was. No more is Ocho the big NFL celebrity causing a stir with his zany antics. Every game gets more painful to watch. 6 games in and its just not working out. The Pats are already on the hook for the 4.75 Mil, but Ocho will be 34 next season and the Pats need to give Welker a new deal.

At least Randy Moss would run the correct route and Brady would trust him to catch the ball.

Thats not the case with Ocho.

It Is What It Is » Is this the end of Chad Ochocinco in New England?

Thanks for linking an article 4 days old. Not sure how you could have missed something so wonderfully negative.

Whats positive about Ocho?

That his Prius gets 39 mpg.

See you Ocho! Have a nice vacation with the rest of the team. See you at practice on Monday. And see you in the game against Pittsburgh.

Ochocinco is not getting cut. Randy Moss is not coming back.

Get over it already. For better or worse, Ochocinco will finish the year on the Patriots. I have never seen so much debate over the #3 WR/5th receiving option.

And as for Moss, if the Pats were ever going to consider bringing him back, he would have already been back when Taylor Price was injured. Moss is done. People need to stop fantasizing that he has anything left.

Other than his pay I don't get the big deal. People obsess over Moss and Ocho. He is the 5th receiver in this system. It's not like he is going to get a lot of looks, time, or make a huge impact right now. He is obviously better than price because he is getting the snaps.

He's here. He is staying. Moss is not coming back. The Pats have one of, if not the best offense in the NFL.

I think the problem here is that too many people expected him to come here and put up numbers a la Moss 2007.

Oh Man. Another duplicate thread based on a speculative and DUPLICATE article written by a lazy writer with nothing better to do during the by week.

For the record and also repetitive. The Pats have the BEST passing offense in the league. Ocho is the FIFTH option among receivers for the Pats. It is what it IS. If you want to beat him up for not beating out Branch, then go ahead. But to beat him up because he is the 5th option is just an example of lazy writers having NOTHING else to write. Never in the history of the game has a 5th option been the subject of so much speculation

The Pats are already on the hook for $6M Chad received this season...which surpasses the TOTAL EARNINGS of Welker, Branch, Price, Gronkowski and Hernandez this season... $5.95M. He will be with us again next season either in person or in spirit (dead cap $3.16M). From both a compensation model standpoint as well as system fit standpoint it is in combination one of the more glaring value mistakes Bill has made in his tenure.

Why they extended him rather than simply insist he take a prove it deal like all the other reclamation projects is just beyond me.

Actually I think the problem here is that Bill expected him to come here and put up numbers that would eclipse Welker and Branch... Otherwise paying him $6M this year makes no sense...

I am still having a wait-and-see approach considering how awesome Brady's chemistry is right now with Welker/Branch/Gronk/Hernandez.

Maybe higher # of deep throws are part of our offensive strategy after the bye week. If that is happens, hopefully Ocho capitalizes and gives us a return for the $ we invested in him.

Yikes, I didn't realize his dead cap hit was that sizable next year. If he doesn't turn it around, it will probably go down as one of the bigger gaffes they made free agency-wise, behind Adalius Thomas. And I was a big proponent of bringing Ocho on board.

That said, I also don't get why we extended him. If this was a one year deal we could walk away from without a hit, it wouldn't be a big deal. He's not really hurting the team, as some mediots are saying. He's just not performing, and we don't really need him. He could HELP the team if he actually could figure out the offense, but at least he's not letting us down in an area of need (Adalius) or being a locker room problem (again, Adalius).

im a big Moss fan but lets face it the pats were way to predictable with him in the line up and he said he wants proper compensation witch means he wants to be paid like a #1 WR and when the ball does not come he's way he will stop playing hard, if the pats want to cut Ocho they will but Moss days as a pat are done

Ocho not getting enough snaps is a good problem to have. He's a good receiver and if we didn't have other options, I'm sure Brady/our offense would be forced to utilize him more than they do now. Remember, when we had Reche and Gaffney just a few years ago ;).

Also, Ocho's not getting cut. I think he'll make an impact later on this year.

Well, Ocho might not have been willing to do a prove it deal like Haynesworth did. You can blame the Pats for not passing on him at that point, but they probably figured they could get one good year out of him. I do expect him though to be more productive in the second half of the season. Hopefully, he takes the next four days off and gets more acclimated with the routes and plays.

Johnson is 5th WR because he stinks and brings almost nothing.

Ocho wasnt brought to NE to sit and watch from the sideline to ooh and aah how awesome Brady is. What happens when the Pats actually need him vs a good defense like the Ravens? Oh, well, Chad is the 5th option and not much is expected from him. Its all good.

Nothing like taking things out of context..
First, one of the reasons his "tweeting" is down is because he had lost a bet.

Second, Randy Moss was traded because BB could tell Randy had lost a step and that Randy's motivation was gone.

Third, you seem to forget that Brady has lost confidence in Moss. There was more than a few articles about it.

As for the Kirk Minihane article, it's garbage. He totally overlooks that Chad is the 5th option at receiver behind Welker, Gronkowski, Hernandez and Branch. And it's important to note that the Pats, when running a multi-receiver set, are typically doing it out of the 2TE/2WR/1RB formation to keep the opposing defenses guessing.

Finally, the claim by Minihane that Price is ahead of Ocho on the depth chart isn't supported by anything.

Instead of pining for a WR who was traded and then cut by the team he was traded too, how about you just try and sit back and enjoy the team? Or is that too much to ask?

I have no doubts that Moss could do more than Ocho.

For one, he learned the offense.

Personally, I never expected more than a good season from Ochocinco. I figured 900-1,000 yards was going to be his ceiling which obviously he won't come close to. I never expected him to replace Welker as Brady's favorite receiver. I didn't think he would make Branch become Brady's third, fourth, or fifth option.

As for production, no one complained about Branch when he went a two game stretch with one catch for 4 yards. Other than the Cowboys' game, there was never a need for Ochocinco to step up and you can argue that the problems with the offense on Sunday were not because Ochocinco didn't become more involved. Until teams figure out how to stop Welker and the TEs, the Pats don't need much more than what Ochocinco is already giving them. It isn't like the Jets where they desperately need Plaxico Burress to step up and he is failing them.

Chad had his opportunity when Hernandez was out... He failed to make the most of it. Like Bill said, sometimes opportunities are a function of game planning, but you have to make the most of your opportunities when the game plan presents them. Since then his opportunities have dwindled...because he failed to do just that.

I have no doubts that Moss could do more than Ocho.

For one, he learned the offense.
Out of curiosity, what was the time difference to learn a new offensive system for Randy Moss and Chad Ochocinco?
