Cannon could replace Thomas.
Alternatively, Cannon could imply be added as the 9th OL, with position coming from the defense.

Faulk could take Ocho's roster spot, with Price or Edelman getting Ocho's few reps.
Alternatively, Vareen could be put on IR, or the position could come from the defense.

are you just talking out loud or are you hearing this from somewhere. Would love to get Cannon back and always good to have the reliable Faulk in the line up

Unless Vereen got hurt last night and I missed it, players and their agents are generally resistant to be put on IR when they are completely healthy. I would imagine the NFLPA wouldn't be happy either and the league would frown upon such blatant usage of the IR as a roster supplement. I realize that youngsters get put on IR all the time with relatively minor injuries, but I don't think it happens much (if at all) with healthy players.

Re: Minor Changes Possible To Offense

I am just talking out loud.

Faulk and Cannon are now eligible to practice, so it is time to consider whether they will be brought back. I believe that we have a one month window to make these decisions.

I also would like to see Faulk back. I would like to see him as a kickoff returner and occasionally on 3rd down as Brady's protector.

Re: Minor Changes Possible To Offense

Part of me does think that they will be running the ball more during the last 10 games.

BJGE
Woodhead
Faulk
Vereen
Ridley

and keep 5 WRs....

Branch

Re: Minor Changes Possible To Offense

The only one of those that makes any sense at all is Cannon replacing Thomas.

You really just proposed cutting the #3 receiver, giving his snaps to the #4 or #5 WR who hasn't been able to beat him out, and use that roster spot for a #5 RB who hasn't played in over a year? I love Faulk, and I'm very glad he's in the locker room, but the only way he's making it onto the roster is if there's an injury at RB to open up a spot.

Not sure if your commentary is directed at me but thats ok. Just think that one of the Vereen/Faulk/Taylor crew has a chance to be more productive than Ocho. Thats all.

Adding Cannon makes a lot of sense IMO

Re: Minor Changes Possible To Offense

I think that we could simply add Cannon and/or Faulk, if the need is there.

I am a strong supporters for carrying special teams aces. But surely, we don't need ALL these special teamers, in addition to Slater.

Tarp

Bye Week Roster Moves

Four players eligible to be activated this week:
Kevin Faulk, Marcus Cannon, Brandon Deadrick and Ron Brace

I believe that the Pats will release Faulk and keep him on speed dial.
(EDIT: Didn't realize that players had an additional 3 weeks to be activated. Just checked the rule. Faulk will probably stick around and practice for another 3 weeks).

I could see Cannon going to IR so that he can be stashed for next year.

I also believe that Deadrick and Brace should both be activated, in favor of Tarpinian (Mayo should be back healthy) and Sterling Moore (assuming Ras-IR can come back). A good pass rush thrives with plenty of fresh bodies.

What does everyone think will happen with these four guys?

I think they redshirt vereen and bring back Faulk.....at least they know what faulk can give them and they can rotate carries between 4backs

That sounds good to me. I feel a bit sorry for Faulk because he's been working really hard to come back, but I don't see room for him. Also would love to see what Cannon's got, but he's not needed and probably wouldn't be a major contributor on special teams. Putting the emphasis on fresh pass-rush bodies makes sense.

I think it depends on which of these guys are healthy. I think Pats have 2 or 3 weeks after bringing them off PUP to activate them.

I think if they do release Faulk they keep him around as a glorified assistant position coach so he can continue to mentor the young RB's.

Given that Cannon had no off-season and no training camp I can't see him making an impact until next year.

The way we lose DL I'm sure Brace and Deadrick will come in handy at some point.

Red shirt Veheen for what? He is not injured. I think Faulk gets cut, I don't see how he makes this team, and over which back, there is only so much ball to go around, who would you replace him for at this point?

I believe the technical term is "invisibilititis"

Vereen did see at least a few snaps yesterday, and one came in the red zone. Perhaps that suggests that his performance is coming along. If that is the case I believe that his potential would be more valuable than Faulk's experience.

If Vereen is not coming along I really like this idea. The Patriots can always manage to find an excuse to send a player to IR.

Faulk is a known quantity and would probably be a better pass protector than Woodhead.

The question I have is does Faulk still have anything in the tank? Can he take it between the tackles on the draw play? Can he still get into his breaks quickly in the pass game? Can he stand up a linebacker in pass protection?

If he checks out I would actually prefer him on 2 minute drives like yesterdays'. (I realize Woodhead did just fine.)

From listening to Brady's interview this morning, I expect Faulk to be back A.S.A.P., worked into the rotation, and used quite a bit. From the way he was talking, I think he'd be blindsided if Faulk was cut loose.

Wow
From reading the other threads I thought Brady was only talking baseball this AM. If this is so, Vereen to IR, or worse.

It was fascinating to hear Brady admit that he was one of the pitchers drinking beer and eating chicken in that Red Sox clubhouse...

NO WAY is Faulk cut. Cannon and Deadrick and/or Brace will be IR'ed. Maybe all three.
