How was the crowd today?

So how'd we do on the noise level today? Sounded pretty loud on tv but I think fox mixes in a lot of crowd noise.

I was at a bar down in Texas today, I always carry a pats jersey in my bag should I be stuck somewhere on a Sunday... Man was it sweet watching those obnoxious cowpie fans file out.. Thanks Tom, I don't think I could've handled them had they won.

I think we helped with a couple Cowboy false starts today. Way too many Cowboys fans at the stadium, though -- more than I've seen in visitors' jerseys in recent memory.

It would be funny if these weren't legitimate complaints. As a resident of Philly and lifelong Pats fan, I've been to many games at Veterans Stadium, The Linc, Foxboro and Gillette. The Linc holds about 10,000 less than Gillette, IIRC, and I've never seen a game at Gillette that comes close to matching the noise level.

Sox have some of the best crowds in baseball.
Both Celts and Bruins fans take the roof off the garden.

With the Pats I think the issues are many.

First....in making the stadium family friendly, they've essentially neutered the passion of many.

For years after the construction of Gillette, they prevented people from standing and cheering to long...

The last couple of years they've tried to bring the noise back and encouraged it. But if you spend years telling people they have to act of certain way...you have to expect hesitation due to heavy handedness.

The wine and cheese/pink hat crowd aren't as numerous as one would think.

Lastly, the truth is in pursuit of space and comfort, the stadium is not conducive to trapping and directing noise.

It's a perfect storm of noiselessness.

The fannies are in the seats....they need to get up!

And replace the clapping with yelling for God's sakes.

I of course agree generally, but from watching today, it seemed like the crowd was among the best I've "seen"/"heard" in Gillette over the years. Sounded like they were into it and really helping the team with crowd noise and support, more than usual today. No?

Prefer to watch the game at home with friends, but last time I went was in a family friendly 200 section.. these folks must have all been corporate freebies, they had no idea what was going on and thought they were in a church. The vendors loved them though..

Longtime STH. Had the pleasure of being visited by stadium security yesterday during the first quarter. Apparently there were complaints from above that we were standing to much. Although I don't agree we try and follow the "policy" of only standing on 3rd downs, big plays, (and if the people in front of me are standing). I tried to point out to the security staff that the entire section in front of me was standing but he told us to just be loud from our seats.

It was a wild scene in the cheap seats. Section 336. According to my Dad. A large number of Cowgirl fans in attendance. Many more that the Jets last week.

There ya go. They don't make it easy. That said people who never go to Gillette always complain about the lack of noise but I've never sat through a 'quiet" game but this week crowd noise seemed to carry loud and clear. Romo seemed to be having a hard time hearing, there were a couple of false starts probably credited to noise. All in all, good job by the fans:rocker:

This is how it came across on TV...great crowd when the Pats were on D, but *way* too much cheering when the Pats turned the ball over or the Cowboys scored.

Well, for me Gillette was the loudest its been in quite a few years in the sporadic games I have attended.

The downside is the Club level seats. I sat there for the first time and the view is amazing but the fans are not Patriot fans or possibly football fans in general. I was yelled at for standing with 5 minutes left in the game by some crotchety old man. Give me a break.

Bingo! Those are the prime noise-generating section of the stadium and we get nothing out of them, noise-wise. Especially when the weather isn't great and all the people retreat behind the windows of the Putnam Clubhouse.

The first day we moved into the new stadium the guy next to me was reading the Wall Street Journal. I knew we were in trouble then. We sit in the endzone and from the old staduim to the new one and our section mostly stands. until yesterday...

We had a visit from a stadium securty (blue shirt). He told us that we could no longer stand. He said an indivdual complained about us standing!!! We are in one of the middle rows. We have been standing for years and making the most noise possible. He told us we could no longer do it. I responded by asking him if this was clevland (a season tix holder lost his tix for standing)...I told him we are trying to give the patriots a competitive advantage. He said he didnt care. If the people around you dont want you to be loud and stand then you cant be loud and stand. I think this is absoultly pathetic!!!!

Your story seems fishy to me ... I've had season tickets since 1994 and have missed only three home games in all those years. I've never heard/seen/been told of security telling people to sit down during games. Ever. Not myself or anyone in my section (204 in old Foxboro Stadium, 227 in Gillette) or anyone else I know of who has season tix. Yet, we have folks here complaining about it on Patsfans.com. And, a guy with an end zone seat reading the Wall Street Journal? Blue-shirted security? The security I see wears yellow. Plus, I highly doubt someone would lose his season tix just for standing; sorry, but this seems like b.s.

One thing I have no problem with at all is people being asked to sit when the Pats have the ball. But that usually takes care of itself. I ALWAYS stand and yell for the defense on third down (as does most of the section) and during other, key defensive downs. NOT ONCE in 18 seasons have I been yelled at to sit down by fellow fans, let alone told to by security.

I'll also note that the whole stadium was standing during the Pats' last offensive drive, and that most everyone stands for every play, offense and defense, during playoff games. Again, no complaints heard.
