With Peter King's statement that he has a gut feeling Crennel will be canned at the end of the season (along with Savage) one can't help but wonder if he'd be offered a spot as a Assistant Head Coach here or one of those more wide ranging titles.

My only concern would be that Dan Pees I think has done a GREAT job (when was the last time we had a thread about Pees? The less talk there is about a coordinator is an indication they are doing a great job).

Knowing how popular Romeo was with so many players, I wouldn't want to see anything done to undermine his authority, and given Romeo's respect and previous position as DC, it might create a situation where players go to Romeo if they don't like what Pees is telling them, undermining our DC with the players.

Anyone else have any thoughts about the possibility of Crennel being fired and returning to the Pats?

Whoops - Sorry for needlessly restarting a thread that already exists.

I neglected to go back 30 pages to see if this has previously been discussed back at the end of November.

I suppose a moderator can merge the threads if they'd like - otherwise it's probably OK to start a new thread now that we're actually at the end of the regular season.

Could have sworn I've read this thread before...

Déjà vu...?

Close, but not quite.

Truth be told, after Mangenius lures BB and Pioli to the Giants ...
both Savage and Romeo come to Foxborough
to reprise their starring roles in Cleveland. :)

Would never want to see Belichick leave but RAC on his second chance would be a great HC for the team. It's not his fault the Browns stunk ... that front office is deplorable...drafting WR's with no QB to throw to them...WTF is that???

Yes - on page 31 of this forum.

Ironically I only routinely go back 30 pages to read all the thread topics to make sure its not been discussed before raising an issue such as whether we'd welcome RAC back here.

Is there a coach in the world who can be successful in Cleveland.

"Bum" Phillips thought he was God's gift to the coaching profession. No way any coach achieves success over there with the current front office ... they are too concerned with making $$$ right now and love the glamor boys.

My prediction: next year Giants GM will be Scott Pioli, Giants coach will be Romeo Crennel. Makes too much sense.

It doesn't have to break that way at all.....Scott stays right here and signs on for long term deal with BB getting an even longer extension. All timed to end around the time TB retires,at which point 7 SB Championships will be enough.

As for Romeo, yeah, he comes back here as well and assumes a newly created role, coordinator in chief.

I think Dante would relinquish the Assistant Head Coach title and probably be happier for it. This would leave an opening for Romeo to assume that role much like Belichick did here in 1996. Not sure if Romeo would go for that since historically speaking coordinator positions seem to get more attention than assistant head coach positions.

I'd love to see RAC come back but whether or not it's due to the lower level of competition there's no doubt in my mind that the Pees deserves to stay the DC.

why does anyone think RAC would be a great head coach? his resume shows he was a good DC, under BB, which is a nice place to be. he hasnt done much yet over at CLE

Romeo as Assistant HC?

like fnordcircle sez, i believe scarnecchia would gladly give up his current title if it meant RAC could come back.
The Scar is one of the patriots' great assets. IMO right behind kraft, pioli, and BB. one of his most important traits is humility. that's why he's been here thru what, 5 head coaches?

I don't think you will see RAC (or Pioli) anywhere near the train wreck that is the Giants unless it's as a DC for someone else. RAC's track record with managing ******* ego's is now spotty at best, and there are sure a lot of those left to deal with in NY. And if he goes to work for an organization stupid enough to hire Casserly... My guess is they want a HC whose forte is OC and QB guru, which is why Charlie's name keeps getting mentioned. Unless they get Eli straightened out, nothing is going to change. And now they need a new featured RB just to remain competitive in the interim. They also need a HC with the cache to command respect while at the same time the personality to engage tempermental players to get them to pull together instead of marching to their own drummer. Or a GM/HC with the stones and savvy to slice and dice and trade them into a better character group of skill players.

There is no way that the Giants can hire the recently fired coach of the Cleveland Browns. Not in that town. The fans and media would go nuts and the ownership and new GM whoever it is will not make that their first big move.

I personally think that if RAC leaves he will be a Assistant Head Coach for the Jets not NE. He and Eric Mangini are reportedly still good friends and makes some sense.

Having already ascended to the ranks of HC RAC may opt to take over a college program rather than work for some other idiot owner/GM, return to NE with some dubious made up title, or work for the pillsbury dough boy.

Maybe Alabama isn't waiting for Saban at all...maybe it's another one of the Belichick branches.

If the Giants get Pioli the fans will be so thrilled that he will get carte blanche for a year. Romeo never had a chance in Cleveland, that organization has been too bad for too long. The Giants aren't as far away and Romeo could succeed.

Romeo to the jets makes a lot of sense.
