Did anyone just see that?

I thought it was interesting. Key was making the point that they played about 318 snaps on defense this year and how many times have been behind during that time? zero snaps

He was saying yes they are giving up huge chunks of yardage but in the end they are still winning. He compared to the Raven's D saying they are only giving up about a TD more than them and there are considered the #1 defense. He said its about the points you give up and W and L's.

On the other hand you had guys like Jackson and Carter just simply yucking it up making fun of the Pats. Jackson says they are giving up the most yardage since the AFL merger. Carter keeps bringing up the fact that they switched from a 34 to 43 b/c they werent getting it down and now are last in the league playing the 43 and wishes he could ask BB is this the worst defense you've ever coached. (cue both him and Jackson start laughing again)

Either way I don't know where the truth lies (probably somewhere in the middle) but I'm just sick of every week all the pre game shows taking shots at our defense and we're still winning (other than Bills loss) and glad to see Key standing up for us and using context with the stats and not just following them blindly...

thoughts?

As far as I am concerned, we can give up 1000 yards a game, as long as we are middle of the pack or better in points allowed I'm happy.

Our D is improving, and will get better as the season goes on. By the end of the year, I think we'll all be pretty happy with it.

So, wait ... Tom Jackson was ranking on the Pats?

Sounds like things haven't changed since I last watched that show. I think that was 2003. Guess I haven't missed anything.

I was with Key until I watched the Pats play the Ravens and the Jets in the playoffs the last couple years.

Now I am with Jackson and Carter.

You know the rap collage that they show each week (by the way, last week was the first one I really liked Pats/Jets). How about putting one together with: first the statement, then the result. For instance, Fedex mouthing off to Rodney. Then, Smith mouthing off to Brady. Jackson" they hate their coach", to BB "Go F yourself.
Can you say Academy Award.
Instead of posting rebuttals, all we have to do is click on this collage.

Don't know what that means

Have you seen the Matrix?

The blue pill allows you to stay in the matrix, remaining blissfully ignorant of the cold reality. The red pill takes you to the real world.

OK, so yards is the real world and winning or losing is phony? Yeah, right.

Each of us has our preferences. I try to avoid ESPN when I can. I watch the NFL network.

I thought of this blue pill...LOL

This is similar to our first half of the season last year. We were one of the last ranked teams yards per game, but in scoring against we were average. In the second half, we improved to being 25th in yards per game (clearly nothing to brag about) but 8th in scoring against. Somehow BB has found a way to give up oodles of yards without giving up many points.

This can be attributed to a number of reasons, with the more obvious being red zone defense, but they're hardly elite in this area (I quickly tried to find that up-to-date stats and had trouble finding them).

We score a lot of points on offense which increases the pass attempts by other teams in order to keep up with the Pats' scoring machine. This means that opposing teams get more yards per game but also more interceptions. We're tied for #4 in the NFL for INT's with 7 picks. This is consistent with last year where we were ranked #1 in scoring and #1 in interceptions (and #30ish in passing yards surrendered per game).

If you didn't see the BleacherReport.com article: New England Patriots: How the NFL's Worst Defense Is Actually 'Doing Their Jobs' | Bleacher Report The article breaks down the number of yards teams gain per point scored (against the Pats) noting that teams have to gain a lot of yards per score. They mention the Pats being 22 in redzone defense (written October 7).

I honestly thought you were referring to viagra.

All of this "worst defense in the league" fodder chewed over ad nauseum by media talking heads is starting to vex.

I sincerely hope the defense starts playing better, beginning today against a hyped opponent in the Cowboys.

Solution: Don't watch.
My new Sunday pregame regimen: Premier League soccer. Followed by Red Zone fantasy roster roll call. Brunch. Patsfans latest. 1:00PM kickoff. I avoid the expert Bozos at all costs.
I would rather read an article on Brittish soccer in which I don't understand 95% of what there talking about, than watch an NFL *********** pregame.
And its 1:00....Red Zone time. Things have changed.
