Earlier this week, there was a thread started that bashed sports radio personnel- which I always thought was an oddity because you had to have to listen to them in the first place before being able to bash them.

Unfortunately, one of those persons exhibiting such odditiy happened to be the Sox's principal owner, Henry, who was listening to 98.5 and got so enraged he drove straight to the radio station to demand air time to argue his point of view in what I think is the biggest PR disaster in Henry's tenure as the owner of the Sox:

Boston Red Sox - Red Sox owner John Henry takes angry detour to dress down sports talkers - The Boston Globe

And if you are aware of this or just read the thread- you will know that he then proceeded to throw a number of people under the bus, including the Cubs, Carl Crawford, and his own wife (who apparently will not have ownership of the Sox if he dies). And the worse thing he did was to really drive up the ratings for 98.5 and create a lot of unnecessary PR (that radio station is on the front page of the Boston Globe now) and make those two obnoxious co-hosts very happy at the expense of himself.

What I think this does is really put into perspective how lucky we are to have Robert Kraft as an owner. Not only is he an extremely competent well-mannered, and well-spoken owner, but he is very well put together as an individual and wise to the way society functions at the expense of the individual.

Most certainly there are many lessons that each of us can draw from this- on the contrast in ownership between those two individuals, and how they approach it.

One lesson here, which I personally have a difficult time with, is if you're POed by what you perceive as untrue statements by others, cool your jets and think very carefully, at least overnight and consult with cooler rational advisers before rushing to utter rash responses that only serve to add fuel to your detractors. That said I enjoy the Bankofamericasox implosion.

I am one who was critical of Kraft for not, after considered thought, responding more to the wildfire that was SpyGate.

This is not going to end well.

yay, more baseball talk, even if it is tangentially related to the patriots. I hate baseball, and any talk of it. Ugh.

The title clearly stated that it was Sox related....you didn't have to open the thread.

john henry must of been pretty ticked off at what he was listening to, otherwise, why else would he ever subject himself to those two a**wipes.

edit: in san diego so i still haven't heard the interview nor do i plan to.

That changes nothing I said, you still didn't have to open the thread.

I don't have any interest in baseball talk in any forum. The thread's theme, since you missed it completely, is the contrast in ownership styles between Kraft (he's the Patriots owner) and the Sox idiot. That's football to me. Patriots football.

but thats not what its turning into, as all red sox posts turn into red sox only posts.

Can't compare the two except in the area of business expertise. Both have maximized their profit from team ownership to the extent the league allows. Henry has the advantage in that his people own NESN.

Most importantly one league deals in guaranteed contracts and the other does not ... that is huge. Henry has brought us 2 World Series and Kraft has brought us 3 Super Bowls ... I am grateful to have experienced all 5 of those.

The morale of this thread is, one owner managed to turn himself into an ass, the other doesn't. Very fortunately, this 'other' owner happens to be the one that owns the Patriots, so you could say that I'm celebrating that fact.

I think that no matter what position every one of us occupies in life, there's something that one can learn from all this. Throwing an excellent player who is in year one of his long career with your team is just about one of the worse things you can do. Imagine Welker signing a new contract this off-season and Kraft then saying publicly he was never in support of that.

The lesson that you never speak in anger may be so old, and past cliche, but it has always been true.

...and well-spoken owner....

LOL, Sure, Maybe....When he's not drunk.

Kraft sounds just like mumbles Menino

I'm gonna be flying home to MA for a few weeks and my whole families gonna be babbling about this red sox drama the whole time. ewwww:mad:

That's what those goons wanted Henry you BOZO!! . To come down the station and toss as many people under the bus as you wish. They'de love have an organization collapse right on air and then give you a rope to hang yourself with right there.

As for the comparison, so true. Thanks Bobby!!!

I don't like baseball either. I hate it. But posting in a thread that you didn't have to open, to complain about that thread, is at least twice as annoying as the original thread.

You were the 4th post in the thread. The first was the OP, which was noting the contrasts. The second was PWP, who was talking about calming one's self and about Kraft's response to Spygate. The third was Dalero saying "his is not going to end well." and the 4th was you complaining that this was more baseball talk and telling everyone how much you hate baseball.

In short, you were the one who turned the thread to baseball talk, by complaining about it.

Henry doesn't seem to have learned the lesson about meddling that Kraft learned with Parcells. I don't know if that's their personality differences, or something else. It'll be interesting to see how the Patriots develop once BB moves on and/or J. Kraft takes over for his dad. Will J. Kraft follow his father's lead, or will he be more like Henry....

Hopefully the apple "doesn't fall far from the tree". IIRC Kraft the younger has been on several NFL owner's committee's to get him the experience needed should he eventually take over.
Thankfully ownership is not on twitter talking about buying Mars like the clown in Indy.

I didn't used to feel this way but the more I see of Jonathan the less confident of the future I become. Hope I'm wrong.
