Source:Colts shopping DE Robert Mathis(Falcons / Jets / Raiders / Pats) all involved as of now (Colts want a #3)

really. umm yea that would fix our pass rushing. Imagine the depth. Wilfork, carter, cunningham, ellis, anderson, brace(after week 6), love, haynesworth. We just put wright on ir. Let's trade for the beast

This would be HUGE. I don't see why the Jets would want him, since they're the only team on there in a 3-4. Didn't Aaron Maybin and Vernon Gholston teach them anything?

Wow, interesting rumor. If we weren't running more 4-3 this year I would dismiss this idea. But he's probably an upgrade over Carter as long as he's healthy. Also could be a subpackage rusher too. He had 11.5 sacks last season and already has 3.5 sacks this season. Can we say hello passrush? 4th rounder for Mathis? Make it so BB! :)

Nah, I think Ellis goes to the bench. And we play Mathis-AH-VW-Carter.

So what is the source?

And how do the Patriots play into what was said?

I'd pass. I think if BB let the DL not worry about also playing the run, you'd see much higher sack totals. I don't think he'd be worth the investment.

Really? Can you name anyone currently on this roster who could realistically get to double digit sacks like Mathis? This defense needs help. Even if Mathis is a 'rental player', adding a credible passrush could potentially help this porous secondary so much!

And did you honestly say - "if BB let the DL not worry about also playing the run"? Hello, if you don't stop the run in this league, you're dead in the water. 3rd and longs are a lot easier to stop than 3rd and shorts. If you're not stopping the run on early downs you're setting yourself up for 3rd and shorts and that opens up the playbook for the opposing offense.

After hearing this rumor, I am looking at other team websites to see if there is any link. Jaguars forum is saying its Mathis and Reggie Wayne. I would give up a 2nd and 6th for both of them.

Not gonna lie got a little excited when I read this.

I don't like the move. I don't think he'd have double digit sacks with the Pats. We can disagree, as clearly you'd like the move. Again, I'd pass.

I think your point is very valid and you can couple that with the fact Mathis would not have Freeney on the other side here and would get more attention.

That being said it is hard not to think its still worth it just for 3rd downs. He would be our best edge rusher.

Who cares if he gets double digit sacks as long as he improves the pass rush. How many double digit sacks seasons did McGinest/Vrable get during 01-04? I guess those guys were useless too.

Bill Walsh believed a key ingredient to a championship football team was having a pass rush in the 4th quarter. Mathis would significantly help with this. With this spectacular offense and its ability to get out in front of teams, forcing teams to pass to catch up and having a pass rush to make comebacks difficult would go a long way towards enhancing this team's title chances.

Chris
