From Nick Wright out of Kansas City via Twitter:

Multiple #Chiefs personnel told me Scott Pioli had decided to fire Todd Haley had the #Chiefs lost to the Colts on Sunday.

Sounds like Haley's on a short leash right now.

Re: OT: Pioli Almost Fired Haley

I think that he really needs to go. A coach needs not only a good staff anf teaching skills, but more than anything else he needs to show real leadership, something that Haley seems to be lacking in.

The head coach sets the example, the tone, and his players will react to that accordingly. To date, his example is less of a coach and more of a martinet.

If he lasts the rest of the season, can't see him making next season!

I can't see him working in the NFL next season if he's fired, unless it's a sympathy job. Maybe he and Mangina can start an ex-coach's fan site. Call it RatBastards. :D Maybe they could make Matt Millen their hiring director.......

Pioli and Haley supposedly have a bad relationship already with them rumored to have some big blow ups. Haley reportedly drove Weiss out of town. Haley had gotten into heated discussions with Josh McDaniels and John Harbaugh for running up the scores against the Chiefs (one in a preseason game). Haley's ego and temper is legendary.

I am wondering if he has sunk his career in the NFL all together. His temper and ego is going to scare off a lot of head coaches looking for an OC.

The story may or may not be true, but Nick Wright is not trustworthy and Chiefsplanet doesn't even have a dedicated thread for this claim.

The Chiefs have responded:

Chiefs GM Scott Pioli went on the record with me for a couple minutes this afternoon and I asked him if Nick Wright's report that he was prepared to fire Haley last week was accurate. Pioli said it was "100 percent false" and strongly refuted the report.

I asked if there were ever any discussions about firing Haley leading up to the Colts game and, again, he said there was no truth to that.

Chiefs Say Nick Wright's Report On Todd Haley Is '100 Percent False' - Arrowhead Pride

I think it's a bad sign when even someone as mild mannered as Cassel gets into it with him. I still believe it's a volatile situation, and Pioli is obviously doing the right thing with squashing that regardless of whether or not it had any validity. You can't have that type of distraction surrounding your team at this point in the year. They're only 2-3, there's still plenty of football left to be played and it's far from over. But I still think it's a situation to watch, especially if they don't start winning in the coming weeks.

Maybe they would like Bill O'Brien to be head coach next season, he's worked with both Pioli & Cassel. :p

Wouldn't rule out McDaniels replacing Haley at the end of the season though.

Hope he's still there when we play them on MNF and we run up the score then get's angry at BB for doing that. BB would laugh in his face!

True or untrue Haley does not seem like he's a good bloke at all.

I'm not sure they like each other too much. Pioli could have hired McD but he chose Hali.

Pioli chose Hali over Josh ??

Doesn't say much for his judge of personnel ....maybe BB was the brains behind the Patriot drafts after all.....

Big mistake for not already doing it.

Pioli didnt choose Haley over McDaniels. McDaniels had already taken the Denver job by the time Pioli became the K.C. general manager.

Broncos hire McDaniels as coach - The Denver Post

Chiefs Hire Scott Pioli as General Manager, Herm Edwards Likely Out as Head Coach

Whether Pioli would have hired McDaniels if he'd been available is something I can't answer.
