I honestly believe this. The NFL and REfs do not want the pats to win anymore.

I have seen so many bullshlt calls lately in this league that leads me to this conclusion.

I watch football and find myself hating it more than ever with the rule changes and terrible calls in EVERY SINGLE PATS GAME.

Officiating Conspiracy Problems:
-Denver Playoff Game, Bears '06 game, and pretty much every other game.
-the 9 "Defensive Holding" calls a game
-the over-calling of Pass Interference calls by refs on the Pats
-the lack of Pass Interference calls on Pats opponents unless ridiculously blatant.
-the refs ignoring Brady getting speared, and the whole situation in general

It is very simple... the Refs and NFL do not want the Patriots to win another Superbowl... It's not good for the league. They want someone else...

I know some of you agree with me but don't have the balls to put it on here b/c you afraid of getting ripped... But i'll just say it for you guys then.

whether you agree with me or not you still must ask yourself this question.. Is officiating that bad lately? or does it seem that bad because we are pats fans and we are watching our own bad calls...?

Every youth team I have coached I have brought this subject up all the time. I tell them if you feel the other team has an extra player ... keep your mouth shut and play harder.

To me ... the Patriots have done that and continue to do that. I'm sure this fact is not lost upon them ... new blood is great for the NFL and its ratings ... especially when the team comes from a major city like say Philly
or has a hyped star like Peyton.

Like the team ... I have learned to love the hate ... it's so much fun.

We've had more than our share of calls go against us, but the refs called the Gerard turnover a fumble which essentially won the JAX for the Pats.

If the refs were against us, that would have not been ruled a fumble.

Sadly, there's no conspiracy... officiating in the NFL really is that bad.

The Pats/Broncos game was one of many from last seasons' playoffs that was marred by poor calls -- heck, the officiating was THE biggest story the week after the Super Bowl.

I usually watch all of the NFL games I can on Sunday and Monday, and I can honestly say that I almost never watch an entire game without seeing at least one horrible call on a big play.

Psychologically, in the minds of the NFL officials, when they are doing a Pats game, I believe that they still remember that call, and I believe that most of them believe that it was a fumble, and that the call is what catapulted the Pats into the positin that they now are in....

I agree with what i quoted above from your post.

However i think some/most of it is intentional... i think they will go against the pats in most close calls for the same reasons you said they did it unintentionally.

And i don't think the Garrard call was close at all.. I thought it was obvious it was a fumble.

Okay, Uncle Box will explain some of his antique humor.

1. Some prison uniforms used to paint a "P" on the back for easier identification. The NFL may use vertical vice horizontal stripes, but the "P" and leg irons gives away officiating criminals.
2. Robin of Batman and Robin fame wore a raccoon looking black mask.
3. Tin foil hats are what people like NEM wear to insulate them from thoughts broadcast by black helicopters. That way nothing disturbs the voices in their heads.
4. I think the officiating has been getting worse as they struggle to understand and apply the tiny testes rules, and any paranoia about officiating during Pats' games is probably justified.

Ah the selective memory of the homer, always certain that it is their team and no one else's that is victim to a league wide conspiracy. The fact that such an idea is ludacris will not sway them, nor will the impossibility of maintaining the necessary level of secrecy to carry out this conspiracy. No, their subjective recollections are all the proof that is needed for every team in the NFL to be conspired against according to some of their fans.

Anyway, NFL officiating on the whole is just plain bad. Ive said it before and I'll say it again, but the NFL is the only league that doesn't have full time refs. That's right, instead of watching film all week and doing other things to help them improve their judging of the games in a way that is aided by the NFL every single official either does something that is not related to football. The NBA, NHL, and MLB all have full time officials to try and make sure that they do the best job they can, but for some reason the NFL doesn't. Naturally bad (sometimes game changing) calls happen, and to some fans this must be a conspiracy. Maybe some day the NFL will get serious about officiating but until then we will have to hear from fans who have got it all figured out.

The conspiracy Faiders nuts will say we were gifted with the tuck ruling on the first SB; but as we have all discussed ad nauseum that same call was made 3 times that year including once in Pats-Jets and we lost to the Jesters essentially on that call. So 90% of Pats fans as soon as they saw the replay KNEW THAT ONE WAS COMING BACK (if there was any referee integrity)

But other than that can you point to a single point in the last 5 years where the NFL rules committee and their refs have not been against us?????????


The level of officiating in the NFL has never been at a lower level than in last year's playoffs. It was horrid. That Pitt was able to beat INDY and the REFs last year was a god send for justice. That the new ref favorite Pitt was essentially gifted the SB seems to me uncontestable. I think part of reason was this NFL idea of switching from evaluating referees based on quality of season-long pairings and instead selecting based on individual quality. While in theory it sounded good; instead we ended up with guys who didn't work well together.

But the level has remained consistently inconsistent this year as well. And the level of tentativeness in these guys making decisions has risen as well.

I think this partially goes back to Polian and all his maneuverings with the rules committee. They kept tweaking rules and "points of emphasis" in order to hit the Patriots and all they did was confuse the refs.

Second I think we are just hitting a generational changing of guard in the referees. A lot of the older exeperienced guys I think can't keep up anymore and some of these newer refs are not that good.

I think the solution is to revive the FULL TIME REFEREE debate. I was previously against this idea. But the more I continue to see miscarriages of justice and guys who flat out DONT kNOW the rules they are supposed to enforce. Then I think it needs to be considered.

I would recommend hiring the LEAD REFEREE on each pairing FULL TIME and then make him responsible for hiring or firing his part-time assistants. He needs to train them up and statistically measure them. The NFL then measures each pairing group and rewards the Lead Referrees with the most timely and accurate rulings with bonuses and Playoff appearances.

While its great for us to keep winning here in New England, its not good for the rest of the NFL. I think the Patriot players know that they are getting screwed on calls but they carry themselves in the manner of champions and say nothing about it.

Why do you think there was no penalty and no fine for the "spearing" on Brady with what I think was one of the most vicious blows seen in the NFL on a QB this year?

What the league just said was "Its OK to hit Tom Brady the way Grant did in Jacksonville"

Because as long as Brady is on the field, the Patriots have a chance to win despite the refs.

Take Brady out of the game and we have no chance to win. The NFL knows this.

The Patriots are not a dirty team. They are a physical group of players that respect the game and thier opponents week in and week out.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why the NFL does not promote this style of football and quality of character. Once the whistle blows to start the game, we are treated like common criminals on the field.

And, in their minds, not intentionally, on very close calls that may determine the outcome of a game, psychologically (sp.) they will call it AGAINST the Pats.

I find it ridiculous that folks think the refs don't understand the Tuck rule whose purpose is to remove subjectivity from the call.
It was obvious and correctly interpreted. That's why Walt Coleman upon viewing the replay said that he had no choice but to overturn the call on the field. He had the "incontrovertable video evidence". Those of you who watch football saw the very same Tuck rule used against us in game 2 of that same 2001 season when Testaverde (a Jet then ) was sacked, fumbled and the Pats recovered. Play was ruled an incomplete pass via the Tuck rule.

Some fans must either have trouble learning or understanding the rules.

I tend to agree. Take the last game. We, as Pats fans, are all convinced that the "fumble" call was the right call. To a Jags fan, the refs handed the game to the Pats, cause the "league wants them to win" (I don't agree with that assesment, but its what they are saying)

The only common thread is that all teams have had calls go for them, and against them.

Its just poor reffing.
