this thread violates nothing and therefore should not be moved I am stating how backwards the JETS have become at WR add other places like depth my PATS if you want. I am mainly focusing on the WR's

Yeah, having "three number one receivers" is working beautifully, isn't it? Cotchery was always a Patriot killer and Edwards had his moments. Plax had a couple of bad drops yesterday (Pats really should say "thanks") and Mason is proving to be too much of a douche for even the Jets .. Which is saying a lot. They are lucky they have Holmes, who might be the last clutch player that offense has.

As for Brad Smith, I still believe he was the Jets' MVP last year and, as good as McKnight has been in the return game, there's a dimension missing from the offense without Smith (see TD v the Egos yesterday). In my view, Sanchez is at his best when he's doing that Pennington-esque misdirection stuff, and he could do a lot more with Smith.

Basically, Rex & Co. get an "F" in chemistry this year.

It's a bad sign when you toss around the amount of $$ they did this offseason and your team gets worse overall if anything. Hopefully the Jets will pay down the road for that, I bet they'll somehow weasel they're way out of it though.

Yeah I don't know what they were thinking bringing in a 34 yr old receiver two years removed from the game and expecting him to make a significant contribution. Or bringing in a 38 yr old receiver. Jets have no talent outside of Holmes (who IMO is over rated) and Keller. And on top of that they can't even run the ball either, lol.

I'd say they are an 8-8 to 9-7 team.

The passing game problems have much less to do with their receivers and much more to do with Mark Sanchez. This guy just lacks natural accuracy, and he will never get it. He can't even hit the short-mid underneath guys consistently, and that's why they can't open up the field.

Yeah I don't think Sanchez has the skill to overcome the drop in talent at WR. Brady won 12 games in 2006 throwing to Dough Gabriel, Reche Caldwell, and making use of tight ends like Ben Watson. He had the benefit of a "ground pound" in Maroney and Dillon but the Jets shouldn't be much worse in that regard unless LT is totally washed up.

The Bills' emergence could make it very hard for the Jets to get the wild card again this year. This will be year #3 of tough talk followed by not winning the division.

If you're looking at them both almost entirely as return men and gadget-play types, then I think you've got to give the edge to McKnight. His KR TD against Baltimore was responsible for almost half of the Jets' total points, and the 88 yarder against the Pats was the only reason why hey had a TD in the first half. You could argue pretty credibly that he's one of the Jets' most valuable players right now.

Joe... how often do we see BIG runs? I may have seen 1 or 2.


Both guys are solid at returning I am not comparing them there.... just usefulness for their position on top of the PR and KR.

Fair enough, although Smith had 23 receptions for ~170 yards combined over his last three seasons with the Jets, so I wouldn't oversell his capabilities as a receiver too much.

He worked very well in tandem with Dillon. But he was never able to carry the load as a the featured back. Which is pretty underwhelming for a young player. He isn't even on a team right now, is he?

The Jets made some bad salary cap decisions, and also ignored the depth on their team which is why they are where they are today. Anyone that was complaining about all the superstars and 1st round picks they were signing a few years ago should now have their answers on why the Patriots were right to never do that.

This whole issue goes directly against Felger's "the cap is crap" argument. The Jets let the WR position deteriorate because they couldn't spend money waiting for Asomougha to make his decision because they didn't have the cap room to sign a good WR. The cap crapped all over the Jets' receiving corp.

I said before the season that I didn't think the Jets were going to be as good as last year, but I didn't think they would be this much worse. I think their defensive decline is bigger than their lack of receivers. They had one of the best run defenses in 2009 (8th) and 2010 (3rd) and now they have one of the worst (26th). The Jets have given up more points than the Pats so far this season (125 for the Jets and 119 for the Pats, although both gave up points on offense which count towards the defensive stats).
