Just want to make note of the difference between the Pats & Colts without their star QBs in 2008 and 2011. No point to this post other than to gloat a bit and enjoy being a fan of a team that prepares so well.

Of course, you're comparing a team coming off a 10-6 season where they just barely scraped their way to a playoff berth with the star QB to a team coming off a 16-0 season.

My boss is a HUGE Colts fan. Well, he calls himself a 'fan' even though he's not even watching the games this year.

What is driving me NUTS is his constant "See! Manning IS better than Brady! The Pats won 11 without Brady, he's a system quarterback!" yammering.

*sigh* some people just never get it.

Pats are a team. A decent QB should be able to come in here and get some wins like Matt Cassel did. Matty got us 11. Tom might have got 16. Who knows.

Colts are not a team. Too many holes which Manning made up for.

I think the 2006 Colts roster could have won a fair number of games without Manning. I don't think the 2011 Colts roster could make the playoffs WITH Manning. Too many terrible drafts in Indy, they just don't have much talent left.

I mean are we talking about Curtis Painter here ...

That he even qualifies as a backup QB in the NFL is a joke - he has to be the worst.

Re: Just want to make note of the difference btwn Pats & Colts w/out star QB

If the Colts had a Matt Cassel they may have won the last 3-4 games. Just goes to show how important it is to have a good backup QB, something the Colts have not paid enough attention to. They still have a defense that can keep them in games and on some occasions created turnovers/scores to put them in position to win.

Like I said in another thread earlier, they're not losing because they don't have Manning, they're losing because they weren't prepared with a legit #2.

Does he take into account the coach?

BB or Caldwell? Hmmm... who is better?...

Two biggest reasons have already been mentioned. These aren't your 06 Colts talent wise. And, Tony Dungy isn't there. Caldwell is not head coaching material. Miss Dungy's leadership. Rudderless ship without Manning and Dungy.

In which you should reply. "Heck, Matt Cassell is better than Manning. He went 11-5 and Manning went 10-6 last season."

Guys this is simple you can try and spin this into a debate about who is better om or Peyton but the truth is neither the 08 Pats or 11 Colts have anything to do with either.

The truth is the deabte is Cassell vs Painter which there is no real debate for.

Lastly you can compare the teams but again not really a comparison as others pointed out we were coming off a 16-0 regular season while the Colts were 10-6.

file this under nothing new to see here move along.

And that might just be tanking the season to get Andrew Luck if Peyton is done.

There is no argument any more that disputes Peyton Manning is one of the greatest ever. Nor is there with Tom Brady.

As these two wind down and eventually retire, Pats and Colts fans will show more admiration for the other quarterback, and will likely unite in defending both Brady and Manning against up-and-comers with better passing stats in a new era.

im going to be brutally honest here. While manning has impressed me...... it only came in the regular season. He always stunk it up in the playoffs. IMO, i wouldn't want manning on my team.

This isn't the 06 Colts, but it is 95% the same team (sans Manning) that went to the Superbowl 2 years ago. They pulled 14 wins out of their butt that year and it's now pretty obvious where they came from. I don't buy that Manning's lack of success in the playoffs has anything to do with him, but, like others here have said, with the lack of a real team around him. He's not perfect 100% of the time and there's never any other part of the team to pick up the slack.

I'm not doing a Brady/Manning debate, just injecting some perspective. While this season has shown me that Manning earned those 4 MVPs (and probably more), it depresses the hell out of me thinking what this team's crap management has squandered with him.
