Rex Ryan says that he kept McKnight Because His Ceiling is Higher Than Woodhead's

The quote from Rex: "Danny Woodhead's a great back and done great things in New England, but this guy's ceiling is about as high as it gets."
I think he's referring to McKnight's ceiling, rather than Woodhead's. :bricks:

However, I have no complaints with poaching Woodhead off of Rexy. Kid can play. :rocker:

Jets coach Rex Ryan says keeping Joe McKnight over Patriots' Danny Woodhead was the right move

The quote from Rex: "Danny Woodhead's a great back and done great things in New England, but this guy's ceiling is about as high as it gets."

"This guy" = McKnight, actually.

That said:

Woodhead, meanwhile, has been invisible this season

McKnight: 6 carries, 14 yards, 2.3 YPC
Woodhead: 26 carries, 115 yards, 4.4 YPC; 6 receptions, 41 yards

Yeah, that's invisible.

What Ryan and the NY Daily News writer omit is that it did not absolutely have to be an either/or situation with McKnight and Woodhead. For example, if I recall correctly the Jets had WR David Clowney on the roster at that time, then cut him just a couple of weeks later.

Thankfully Ryan did not keep Woodhead over Clowney, because if he had Woodhead would have taken advantage of the opportunity there, just like he did with the Pats.

holy misleading title!

(Mod edit: It's been changed)

I don't care who you have for personnel, a healthy Woodhead is a keeper. Period.

Maybe Woodhead doesn't have the hype or the "ceiling" that McKnight does, but what he is is a proven team player with proven football intelligence, proven talent, proven versatility and proven Rudy-like determination.

I guess that wasn't enough to keep him a Jet.

Those are however, exactly the qualities that the Patriot's value in their players.

Your loss, our gain.

EDIT: Sorry, I deleted a couple paragraphs with the intention of being a little more succinct.
EDIT: I need to proofread more and edit less. Fixed Woodhead's name.

That fat SOB is so full of BS.

Originally, the rumor was that Fatso wanted to keep Woody, but Tanny did not want to cut McRib because he had just drafted him. Woodhead blew McRib away in camp.

That fat SOB is so full of BS.

What would you have said if you were the head coach of the Jets?

"Yeah, really wish we'd kept Woodhead. Turns out that kid can play. Too bad we kept this bum McKnight. Man he's terrible."

It's not like if Rex actually regrets the decision he could say that to the media. Imagine what that would do for McKnight.

McKnight is a good special teamer, but he has done squat on offense. With Westoff, Woodhead might have been as good as of a returner. The Jets always have good returners.

And all of those carries were in garbage time against the JAGS. McKnight may turn out to have value as a ST'er and back of the roster situational guy. Or that could be a one game anomoly. Danny has that and more. He had over a thousand yards from scrimmage last season in 14 games as an injury replacement third down back while McKnight was literally puking and virtually useless to them last season. He's shown some freaky flashes in one game and Rex is typically annointing him mostly to make himself look less foolish.

I don't care who you have for personnel, a healthy Woodhouse is a keeper. Period.

Maybe Woodhouse doesn't have the hype or the "ceiling" that McKnight does, but what he is is a proven team player with proven football intelligence, proven talent, proven versatility and proven Rudy-like determination.

I guess that wasn't enough to keep him a Jet.

Before you get more succinct, can you at least get our player's name correct first?

Tbh you can't really cut a 4th round pick that early. Maybe he should of IR stashed him or something. He looked good in that return last week but so didn't Justin miller and Leon washington back in the day.

Brandon Tate, Bethel Johnson, and Chad Jackson all have had more impactful special teams presence than McKnight. Rex is a lunatic.

Ryan McKnight is a poor man's Matthew Slater.

A VERY, VERY poor man's Matthew Slater.

Danny Woodhouse is way better than Ryan McKnight
