Sports Hub say's Woodhead to Try Practicing Today

I think the biggest news in this thread is that some fans here are so fickle they'd rather see a rookie debut against the JETS than a kid who has consistently performed here including against them like a heart and soul impact player. But then again I shouldn't be surprised given all the threads dedicated to whether his predecessor - who took a lot more time here to round into form - should even make the team over the last several seasons...

Given a choice, I'll take a healthy Woodhead over a Vereen debut this week, thank you. Ridley has nothing to do with that equation, either, since he and Benny are competing for the featured back or backfield duo slot(s).

Key term in your post, Mo was "HEALTHY Woodhead".

I'd rather see a healthy Vereen over a hobbling Woodhead. This ain't the playoffs and there is time for him to heal properly to give him a stronger rest of the seasson.

Let Woody rest and heal. BJGE/Ridley looked really good last week and I want to see what Vereen can do.

I think Vereen will be inactivated in favor of AH, Wright, and/or Hernandez.

It's still a division game. We have a chance to put distance between us and the Jets. If we lose, we're tied with them.

Wow, cranky board today. Even with the Yankees losing.

With Woodhead out, I worry about blocking from the backs. I haven't watched more than five minutes of any games this year (travel, work), so I wonder if Ridley has shown anything in this area? Thoughts? Gotta protect TB12, first and foremost.

I can almost guarantee you that to date blocking concerns moreso than anything (including the usual rookie real time concerns like ball security and decision making at NFL game opposition talent level and speed) is why we haven't seen much of Ridley or any of Vereen. JETS week is not the time to just say screw it, let's see what the kids can do... Protecting the franchise and the ball are job one here most weeks let alone this week against a division rival who has given us fits at times of late.

Then we're going with two RB's?

Woodhead not seen at practice today again per SMY.

Yeah, at some point Woody might be fighting for his job.

First he has to deal with racism -- he's a white guy playing a non-white position. Second, he was undrafted, so he has that stigma. Finally, he's at an extremely competitive position, where injuries often affect the depth chart permanently.

I'm still rooting for the guy. A rotation of Woody, Benny and Ridley could be one of the best in the league.

I don't think that's ever really been an issue with BB and the patriots. I like to think that one of the greatest coaches of all-time would be colorblind and not put any stock whatsoever into race.

Woodhead has been one of my favorite players this last year. Now I trust BB to play whomever he feels is performing best, and is the bet for the job, whether that's Woodhead or not. Whether that man is blue, yellow, pink, or green, it shouldn't matter.

You keep talking as if Woodhead is healthy. For the third day in a row, he is not practicing today.

Woodhead on a gimpy ankle at 70% will put Brady in the hospital.

It all depends on his HEALTH.

Wow, I guess so.

I am making an educated guess. I don't think you'd activate a player with zero experience for a division game in favor of benching one of the following: AH, Wright, or Hernandez.

The inactives most likely will be:

Vollmer, Edelman, Woodhead, Mayo, Mallett, Vereen, and maybe Moulden.

What team only activates 2 RBs/FBs? Vereen will be active, if one of the two RBs go down, there on the field on every play then?

We did, in our season opener.

Who said he's at 70% (and even if he is what's to say he won't be at 90% by gametime...) and who's to say Vereen at 100% won't potentially put Brady in the hospital facing the JETS as a RB and blocker for the first time in his NFL career? Was Vereen active last week? If he was he didn't get a sniff on offense even after Woodhead went down... Looked it up and he was, although he only made an appearance on the punt return team...after Woodhead went out.

Woodhead hasn't practiced at all this week - - no Wednesday, no Thursday and no Friday. It would be a very slight chance he plays this week.

Kettani was called back to the Navy yesterday.

We have two (one with questionable health) TE's.

Fletcher will probably be seeing more time on D with Mayo out. Forget about him as FB this week.

To answer your question - yes, Vereen was active last week. He didn't get in the game, but we had Woodhead in there in the first half. The Jets run D is more vulnerable than their secondary.

Vereen is someone who can have some value for our offense this game. Maybe he doesn't see the field, but there's a good chance he suits up.

I am not holding out any hope that Woodhead plays. He missed the entire week of practice. Maybe they have him have a limited package and do returns, but I think that is unlikely.

I wouldn't play the guy.

We have Vereen and Ridley and Lawfirm.

Why Rush Woody back? I don't think he would make that BIG of an impact.

Hernandez is back so I am really happy. Let Woody sit out for this 1.

E

I believe that's being facetious.

Besides, has anyone else thought that Law Firm has looked smoother and more natural in the passing game this year?

Granted, he hasn't that many catches, it hasn't really been needed. Still the route running and YAC have been pretty smooth. Should provide hope that the defficiencies in January can be corrected.

It's also an important note why the league is going away from feature back and why a stocked backfield is benefial.

We did, in our season opener.

But we had 3 TE's and Fletcher as possible FB that Miami game.

Now we have 2 TE's (one just coming off injury) and Fletcher having to fill in more for Mayo.

Assuming Hernandez plays, I believe Welch will be our third TE as he was in the last game.

Too bad they actually are the worst defense in the NFL.

Cool story, brah.
