Rex ... Do we really need to defer this week??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Against THAT offense, in THAT enviornment, after what we did in January?
You know they want to bury us, and with all the heat coming down on our offense after the Raven debacle, do we really need to put them on the field down 7-0 two minutes into the game?

If you read my posts you can see I'm one of the more positive fans on here but I think that first drive has disaster written all over it. for ONCE can't we take the damn ball and try to let our offense build a little confidence and get into a good vibe, and a good rythym against a bad defense??

Probably not ... so we should all prepare for climbing uphill on Sunday.

Teams lose when they try and get in a shootout with TB and co. But the jets are going to have to score at least 24+in order to win. Brady is having a 2-3 TD game

Jets like the Pats, take the ball in the 2nd half. I could see Rex, if he won the coin toss, talking the ball in the 1st half.

You know, it's impossible to overstate how much more helpful it would be to people reading this thread if you could have actually posted a LINK to what you're talking about.

Most teams will defer, especially when they are at home. There are just too man advantages to deferring. Let me list them for you, so you will feel better, KB.

1. The home crowd will be at its loudest and will have its biggest effect on the offense.

2. Since the Pats scheme differently for every team, all the new wrinkles the Pats have put in for the Jets will be at their most effective in that first drive, before the opposition has a chance to adjust.

3. Stop them in that first drive and you are guaranteed to have one more possession than your opponent the rest of the way.

4. No only does the offense have to deal with the crowd noise, in the first drive everyone is so amped its more likely that mistakes like illegal procedures, and drops will occur.

5. Getting the ball to start the 2nd half is a huge advantage. By now you've see the basic defensive game plan and while you are making adjustments as the game is going on, now you have had the time to fully adjust.

6. There is always the chance that you will have the ball the last drive of the first half and the first drive of the 2nd half. That chance to put up 2 scores in a row is well worth deferring, even if THAT was the only reason.

7. Given how the Jets play, THEIR defense will the most dangerous on that first drive, before we have a chance to see how they are going to play. If you don't defer, you risk having to gi them the emotional lift of a 3 and out, plus all the disadvantages of knowing that they will get the ball to start the 2nd half.

For all those reasons, I doubt very much if either coach will take the ball first if they win the toss. Id be willing to bet that more 80% of the coaches who win the toss will defer.

Lol

I understand all of this. I'd rather defer every game. It was just a good sign that even the Jesters fans acknowledge that our offense will keep them at bay. They are already going into this game planning to play in an uphill battle for the game.

Thats good. But nice post.

do the jets coaches read that board too I wouldn't be surprised.

"conventional" wisdom would dictate that the jets want to start on offense if given the opportunity, if for no other reason than to rinse the bitter taste last week's game has left in their proverbial pie-holes, and try to get sanchez going early to possibly regain some swagger/confidence.

i wouldn't bet on that pony this week, though.
