Watching Spikes yesterday was very encouraging. He was active and played with ferocity and a sense of urgency. If you ask me, that kind of attitude more than makes up for his occasional muffed play. especially on this passive defense.

Cunningham was invisible. I was watching him and he was completely neutralized all day.

Thoughts? Did anyone see any positives out of Cunningham that I might have missed?

I do see some small improvements with this defense week to week.

Cunningham has made such a small impact I'm not even sure he's been activated for these games. Disappointing start for him after having a promising rookie year. The base switch probably set him back.

Spikes is gonna get his chance to step up big with Mayo out. High hopes for him but it's not fair to be expect their to be little to no drop off from Jerod.

Cunningham was activated for this game..

Spikes seem to make a play and do a fist pump and then promply misses a tackle right after that. I am suprised you think he is up.l rather have him stop missing as many tackle he makes for 1 game. He does not blow up a play either just makes every other tackles he is suppose to and celebrates.

With mayo down guyton will be in there as he is the most experienced which means with Nin as the Sam you need a run stuff and rb covering guy , this means more dan flecter.

even yesterday spikes is fist pumpnig after gang tackling after the rb has gained 4-5 yds.

Cunningham played 1 snap in the first 3 games. He is too small to go against tackles in a 4-3. He is back last week and as we see more 3-4 he will play more.

Again Mayo injury leads to more 3-4 as in 4-3 you need a sideline to sideline LB which they do not have .

Cunningham's last year to try and make an impression. He will have the same fate that Darius Butler had.:(

I think both of these guys were drafted with the 3-4 in mind. Cunningham has also been injured; I hope to see him get more playing time as the season wears on.

Spikes looked a lot better yesterday... I have high hopes for the guy. Hope he's turning into an emotional leader on the defense as they could use some fire in their belly.

I think the Whole team should be cut and we start over again...No fist pumpers allowed.

Cunningham was playing? Damn i didn't even notice him.

He is so much like Junior Seau in that thing except 1 Small difference. Seau will drop the RB for a Loss and fish pump where as Spikes will do it once he tackles the RB after has has gained ONLY 5 yds.

Simply is not true.

I saw Cunningham out there... missing tackles. They should probably move him to OLB or have him play the elephant role where he had some success last year. Not a good sign when you start playing worse your second year (ala Chad Jackson). Maybe it's just because of the position change.

Cunningham stinks, it was a complete misfire, just like Brace playing next to Raji, he was made playing next to Dunlap in College. Bill fell in love with his "versatility". That's the problem Bill is so worried about MLB playing Fullback and Tackles playing TE and Ends playing LB, he's forgetting to get Ends that can play END!!! No sacks 3 QB hits in 40 passing tries. It's a disgrace. The only one who stopped Campbell was Campbell!!! The Jets are a mess, an absolute mess with no line, old receivers and a schitzo QB. If he comes into Foxboro and lights them up then don't make any plans for any late playoff games. For as I have been saying for weeks, I don't need top 10 defense. How bout some defense. And if a Thread needs to be started its how bad the Pats need a talent evaluator. Look at what Ozzie Newsome does in the draft on defense lately, compared to Bill. Bill maybe its not the system, the players, its you. Btw, Connor Barwin, was awesome yesterday for all the fanboys who said he wasn't a factor.

Yeah, if only BB had drafted Dunlap. His 0 sacks would be just what the doctor ordered for our pass rush.

I honestly did not notice Cunningham whatsoever.

Agree on Spikes though, had a decent game

Who is that BB guy anyways?

I'm not in panic mode about Cunningham, but Dunlap, Sean Lee, Michael Neal, Terrence Cody and Ben Tate were the 5 players taken after Cunningham, and I think it's fair to question whether or not Cunningham was the best option in that group.

I rather have Dunlap right now over Cunningham. He might not have sacks but the kid has a motor. He will eventually get his sacks.

Certainly fair, Sean Lee has looked good from what I've seen of him. I was only commenting with respect to the Cunningham vs. Dunlap debate.

If you watch the games, Dunlap is constantly pushing the pocket, especially in the SF game. He had key pass defended yesterday. You don't even know Cunningham played yesterday, and can we stop acting like he was a ROY candidate last year, he had 3 ok games and a couple of good plays. When is the last time a defender on this team was a beast. Oh yeah I remember, Carter in that Pre-season game. Matt Roth, who the Pats cheaped out on as 4 tackles, but 2 sacks. Where are the sacks and the hurries.

Osi sure looked good yesterday as well.:(I am hoping one of these bottom teams will look to trade one of their DEs.I would love a Chris Long on this team.
