Daniel Graham gets named a captain, which means look for a long-term deal any day now. He's a much better blocker than Watson and his hands are more than fine, plus he's like a runaway train when he gets motoring in the open field.

Dave "Triple With Cheese" Thomas is looking like the second coming of Dave Casper. A throwback "big white-guy" tight end who runs nice routes, is strong on the block on the move with the ball and throws the highlight reel catch in for good measure here and there.

Then, you've got poor, old "Slippery Hands" Watson.

Ben comes into what was supposed to be his "breakout season" and ends up becoming the king of the greasy-ball and then, to add insult to injury, just when his season is going south, he pulls up with some mysterious, candy-arse injury!

Make no mistake: Ben Watson is this generation's Marv Cook (the Pats tight end who was replaced by the legendary Ben Coates for you bandwagon jumpers and younger fans).

Just when you thought Old Watson was about to become a star, along comes Watson's own personal "Ben Coates" in the form of Dave Thomas and before you know it, the promise becomes a memory and he's playing for some cut-rate franchise somewhere!

(I think old Marv ended up with some very bad Bears teams!)

I see Watson and his fumble-itis out of here in the offseason while Beli-oli can still get something for him.

ADPF

PS:

By the way, is it just me or does Eric Mangini look like the kid you would have loved to beat the crap out of at a keg party after you and your buddies burnt some krippy and slammed a few greenies in high school!?!?!?!

NFW
Yeah, Ben has been a drive killer lately but NO WAY does BB try to move him. And sure Thomas looked good. I'm a fan. But that was ONE GAME.

(Me, I never beat the crap outa nose tackles)

I don't see BB giving up on Watson's promise so soon. Geez, it took him longer to get rid of Bethel Johnson, who didn't show nearly as much potential upside. Give him another year, at least.

I just think Belichick HATES fumbles. HATES THEM!

I know I do!

And it's not just that, it's the general look and play of confusion Watson runs out there. He never looks like he's, for lack of a better term, "groovin'".

BS, if you want to describe a member of the Pats offense who looks terminally confused out there, there is a far better example than Watson

He not only has Belichick kept Kevin Faulk for the entire 6 years he has been here, he has given him a sizable extension and Faulk has had a far worse fumbling problem than Watson.

Watson is a playmaker with a fumbling problem over a month period. No way does Belichick give up on this guy any time soon.

Also, I don't feel confident that Graham will be resigned. He can get much more on the open market than he will get here. I think the captain title might have been a carrot to entice him to stay, but I think the only way he is a Patriot next year is if he is franchised.

Watson's problem, as my hubby pointed out, is that he doesn't curl into the ball and protect it after he catches it. He stands up straight which allows one guy to hold him upright in the front and a second to punch the ball out from behind. Once he recovers from his injury, BB needs to teach him how to fall correctly after he makes a catch (ala the hated Deion Branch, who was very good at this).

I'm sick of your crap, Armen. It's one pointless thread after another.

Did you even see that play? Did not you not see the defender DRIVE into Watson's shin?

My crit of Watson on that play was that he wiffed a Brady pass right thru his arms right before geting nailed. Not that I wouldn't go all alligator armed seeing the approaching defender.

I think Armen's post goes WAY overboard. The physical tools Watson has, plus the promise--more than promise, delivery on promise--make him extremely valuable. He has excellent hands, excellent speed and excellent YAC abilities.

I look forward to having him and Maroney both back on the field at the same time, along with Graham. And I think if he'd been in good shape, the Jaguars' game would have been easier.

We have only very rarely had all of our best offensive players on the field in the same game. Even worse, some of our potentially best offensive players simply haven't had enough experience to make a big-time impact.

We seem to be getting healthier at the right time. I wish Maroney, Jackson and Watson had another year under their belts, but I still believe when they do, we will have an offensive juggernaut.

Armen, I think you're asking for perfection when excellence will do just fine. And I think we're going to see excellence from Ben Watson before this season is over.

It's unanimous then

Armen gets the hammer...heh heh

Why is it pointless? Is it because it's HIS opinion of Watson and not yours? Try to get over yourself before the new year rolls in.

one thing I want to point out just based on this past game.

Thomas finds the open hole in the zone for the td and not a defender within a half yard to hit Thomas.

Watson's catches the ball and he takes one step and a defender is half a foot from hitting him.

So is it the receiver's fault for not running a precise route?
Is it Brady's fault for setting the receiver up into the hit?
Is it the OC fault for calling plays that lead into the teeth of the defense?

Watson WIFFED on the catch where he got injured.
I still think that the 2006 Ben "Drive Killer" Watson is an abberation.

The ball was thrown into tight coverage and he got alligator arms IMO. He knew he was about to get crushed and he did.

ANOTHER INSANE THREAD. Please just stop with stuff like this. I know Watson has fumbled a few more times than we'd like, but freaking out to this absurd degree is what people do on OTHER messageboards. You people are just KILLING me.

And you will note that the opponent's WR caught and held onto a TD pass in the EZ with Hawkins about to nail him.

Watson screwed up and then literally to add insult to injury got injured on the play. Not what you originally said.

EDIT: maybe you left out an "if"

...and then, to add insult to injury, just when his season is going south, he pulls up with some mysterious, candy-arse injury!
"Mysterious?" His knee got slammed into by another player.

No mystery there.

This time Pats1 .... I TOTALLY agree with you ... pointless thread #xxxx

Armen ... another thread on this stuff? ONE GAME and you think
Thomas is going to canton and Watson is trash.
When Thomas has a bad game are you going to want to trash him too?
You seem to be fixated on this topic....
