Will all of the mention of why we were passing the ball so much and whats going on with our OC, thought this might be cool to post.

Full article here: NFL.com news: Passing game is changing football, but may not be for better

I actually wonder sometimes why coaches are not drafting 6ft 4" wide receivers from college with solid speed and retraining them as CB's and safeties. Good post, passing is completely out off hand.

I think two things, the decline of running is due to RB's being the most physically beat up guys on the the field. They don't last because they consistently get hit by 200-300 lbs guys and are not protected by the rules. While WR and OB's enjoy the the rules to protect their knees, head or dirty play RB's still are not watched very well and take the worst hits. Id love to see a comparison of RB concussions to QB's.
I remember getting up from making a good run with the ball, and used to not breathing because the wind was knocked out of me so many times in a game, and I remember being on the pile of many runs, where the DT or LB put their full weight on my knee or chest when they stood up because they were pissed off. They never call it.
Not sure how to protect them better. But until they find a way many won't last long or have really bad lives after they retire.

Id like to see running come back in the game, but most teams want a scat back and not a Full back to clear for the run, and most know even if you do get a great runner, and like QB running is an art form ,,, you either have the vision or you don't,,, the guys only going to be good for 3-5 years.

I miss the days of Berry Sanders, and Walter Payton. I think both those guys could still be great even now on any team.

80's and early 90's era you had DL who were 250-290 range, guys like White, Jerome Brown, John Randle, Leonard Marshall, Dent, Hampton, McMichael, Bruce Smith etc . Heck, guy like Fred Dean played DE @ 230 lbs ! Today, you have safeties like Laron Landry and WR's like Calvin Johnson playing at 230 !

Look at last 15 years and DT are behemoth 300-350 lbs guys, more athletic. A typical RB today is giving up 100-150 lbs going up against DT's. There's just no way they can sustain the pounding given the speed and impact of the sport today. Even a RB like LeCryBaby Tomlinson was done in 7 years tops

Rules today are built to showcase points and skill players - QB, WR. It's funny that NFL has transformed itself into the style of play of the very owner it has despised the longest, Al Davis.

The days of RB being an elite position is over. Teams do not value it and focus on quantity over quality at te position. Athletes do not want to play it since the lifecycle of a RB is 3-5 years at most. The skilled players are playing WR, TE, DB, DE, LB positions in college. Even the college game has shifted to Pass attack with spread offenses that Urban Meyer et al started 10 years plus ago. When was the last time we saw a top 10 ranked college team playing Option or be strictly run focused.
