Fitzpatrick edges Brady for AFC Player Of The Month Honors

Re: Fitzgerald edges Brady for AFC Player Of The Month Honors

First off, the title is wrong.
second, this is another example of people having short term memories. Brady has been playing better than any qb in the nfl hands down, no doubt about it. Early MVP front runner by a mile. Fitz is ok, but its player of the month, not player of last week.

like my boy skip said "The bills are just a cute story at the begining f the season, nothing more"

I was like Larry is in the NFC right ? :p

No doubt Brady has suffered a mental breakdown over losing out on this prestigious award. This is likely the cause of his hair cut.

Rough times ahead of us Pats fans.

Re: Fitzgerald edges Brady for AFC Player Of The Month Honors

I don't care if Brady lost this distinction. It is a useless award. I think it is more important to Fitzpatrick (not Fitzgerald) since he was a guy who before the season people thought was just a placeholder while the Bills enter the Race for Luck. He deserves some legitimacy.

Re: Fitzgerald edges Brady for AFC Player Of The Month Honors

Agreed on all fronts. We can't have it both ways. We can't say, as I do, that Brady is superior to Peyton and Marino because the latter put up great individual numbers but Tommy delivers the goods when it counts.

For this month at least, TB put up the stats but, when they went head to head, Fitz brought home the bacon when it counted and Tommy coughed up four picks.

I still have the Pats playing deep in January and the Bills sitting on the sidelines, but this round goes to Fitzgerald and the Bills.

Agree

I think we could say that Matt Stafford has played as good or maybe better than Aaron Rodgers in the NFC for the first month...But I would bet my car that Rodgers has a much better chance of getting some hardware in February than Stafford.

OOPS...Just noticed that :bricks:...I must be dreaming again of Larry Fitzgerald as a Patriot :(

Its changed

well deserved Fitz!!!

To bad we won't be able to hear TB talk about how he could care less about the award.

Re: Fitzgerald edges Brady for AFC Player Of The Month Honors

First, I wasnt shouting, I was just putting emphasis on words because this is the internet and not a face to face convo and you cant tell what words I want to really bring a cross..second of all, I cant take this conversation seriously until someone realizes that Fitgerald is a wr and therefor, can not playing qb better than brady at this current time.

Capital letters are usually shouts on the internet, without ! or whatever, but I guess that's neither here nor there.

As far as Fitzpatrick and Fitzgerald go, and putting skin color aside, I'm of Irish descent with both Grandmothers from the Auld Sod and yet have been known to confuse the Fitzpatrick with the Fitzgerald myself from time to time, as I have confused the occasional Malley with the Malloy, so I think I'd lighten up on that one if I were you.

And, I still stick by my arguments on the "Award."

Not to worry, laddie, the names Fitzgerald and Fitzpatrick are both still as Irish as Patty's pig, whatever the hue of skin might be, as me sainted grandmother used to say.

I dont really see what skin color had to do with anything, to even be said that it was "put aside" and I'm lightened up, I was never not Light, I was just making a point that most fans/media only remember the last thing that happened..and also, if I was heavy, and chose not to "lighten up" I would do that if I felt like it.

still really not sure what skin color has to do with it.

plus, Malley and Malloy are different by like 1 letter, half of Fitzpatrick and gerlad is different.

but who really cares.

Brady is better than everyone and everyone else in the NFL can suck it.

Re: Fitzgerald edges Brady for AFC Player Of The Month Honors

even though he put up an L head to head.

The defense blew a 21-0 lead, had a PI, tackled the RB at the 1 to strip Brady of a chance, and more importantly put the L up.

Brady was AFC Offensive Player of the Week for 2 out of 3 weeks in September. How many times was Harvard? Just saying.

My point on skin color was simple; even though one is white and the other black, it's still possible to confuse names.

Of course the Brady is the best in the NFL; the narrower question applied to a month in which two men each played very well, but one prevailed head to head. We disagree on that question.

I won't argue the point on "shouting" any further. We also disagree on that, but it's not worth the energy we're expending on it to take it any further.

If we apply that logic to the 2001 season, Warner was 14--2 and Brady was 11--5 in the regular season; so was Warner automatically the better QB that year? After all he won more games and the regular season MVP. I think not.

I'm sticking to this for the simple reason that we Pats fans can't have it both ways, arguing (as I do often) that we pick Brady over Payme or Marino because W's are more important than stats and then turn around and reverse ourselves in this case.

Those are exactly the kind of excuses that we don't accept when people make them for Peyton and argue that his stats make him the best and that it's always someone else's fault when he loses (O Line, not having his best receivers, Defense, you name it).

We just can't have it both ways; we can't argue that Brady is better across his entire career because he won when it counted and then say that, in looking at this one narrow set of three games in one month, that he is better than a guy who put up very good stats himself and then beat his team head to head.

Brady is the better QB by far and will be talked about long after people forget whether the other guy's name was Fitzpatrick or Fitzgerald. But for this one month, I think you have to give the nod to the Fitz guy. That's all I'm saying.

Re: Fitzgerald edges Brady for AFC Player Of The Month Honors

Sorry but Ryan is even ranked below Rivers, Roethlis, and even the Sanchez...and thats only the AFC QB's. He is ranked #14 overall. His numbers are nothing special at ALL! So he wins one more game and thats the determining factor????

Which ranking system are you referring to?

Fitzpatrick is #2 overall in QBR and # 6 overall is the older, less "SABR" rating system. None of the QBs you mention rank higher than Fitzpatrick in these systems.

Not saying he does or doesn"t deserve it over Brady, just wondering which ranking you are looking at...

Brady put up 500+ yards to start the month, what has Fitzpatrick done? I honestly don't care who wins the award, Congrats to Fitzpatrick, but I don't think he has outperformed Tom Brady. Even in a 'bad game', Brady threw more touchdowns and passed for more yards. And you can't tell me you throw out the first two weeks of the season because of what happened in the last week. Isn't it a 'player of the month' award?

Bottom line, Brady is going to be an MVP candidate again for 2011. I think Fitzpatrick is a good young QB, but at the end of the year he won't even be in that discussion.

Top offensive player, in terms of QB, is more than yards. No team in NFL history has ever come back 2 weeks in a row from an 18+ point deficit. Fitz led both of those comebacks. The Bills also lead the league in points scored so far.

Brady will likely be MVP, but in September, Fitz was just better.
