I thought it would take a couple of weeks to have a relatively stabilized roster. We're getting ready for Game 4 and Belichick is still refining the roster. Perhaps we will have a better idea of the roster after the bye, and after the decisions are made regarding the players on the PUP lsit.
=========================
The defense has a lot of players injured and lots of extra players on the roster. None have gotten more than 1 rep on defense. All have filled in at special teams while folks are injured.

I make the presumption that Wright's position would go to Cohen if he were put on IR.
======================================================

THE BOTTOM OF THE ROSTER
Ventrone, Adams, Tarp, Molden, Ihedigbo

SOME POSSIBILITIES
tight end (Gronkowski?
fullback (Polite?)
swing OT
safety

I thought this question would be asked by now.
Is Aaron Hernandez playing this Sunday?

Assume Bodden, Dowling, McCourty, Arrington, Chung, and Barrett are all healthy. It still would be the case that Bodden, Dowling, and Barrett all have considerable injury histories, that Chung plays in a way that tends to get him banged up, that Arrington has had one concussion this year, and that McCourty is more physical than many at their position. I.e., the top-of-roster DBs are, as a group, fragile. So we need a few more behind them.

But yes, getting back to 3 TEs, or 2 and a FB, or 3 and a FB would make sense.

Any defensive players are a must in my opinion. I know we have a lot of injuries at the moment and the defence as it is needs time to gell, but we really do need to get tighter at the back.

We need another solid Safety.

With all the injuries, none of these players played defense (except for Molden for one play). I'd rather have a free safety and Cohen than any of these players.

At the moment, we need special teams help, but hopefully Dowling, Arrington and Chung are healthier and a couple of these guys can go.

With injuries in the back 7 and the next man up getting more defensive playing time, they sorely need special teamers. Of the 5 guys you mentioned, 3 played on all 4 main special teams units, and Molden played on two. Adams did not play on any.

It's amazing that terrible players like these five were kept over Meriweather and Sanders.

Sanders looked dinged up and slow. Meriweather must have bucked the system to much. Who really knows?

For all of Meriweather's shortcomings (and we're all aware of them) he is considerably better than all of those safeties combined.

I don't have a problem with Ventrone, Ihedigbo or Molden. My problem is with Josh Barrett. We never got to see him in pre-season and we had no idea he was this bad. His performance last week was embarassing. His lack of tackling skills is amazing ... amazing that he is in the NFL with such poor skills and lack of passion for hitting.

Adamd and Tarp are bottom of the roster guys that will be sewitched out as needed. Nobody else wants them. Sorry to see Edds go, thought we had something there.

...and over Edds, and Danny Gronk, and hell even over Butler.
The lack of a proper off-season, combined with the lack of drafting anybody at the Safety position since Chung in the 2nd round of '09, demanded that those Safeties who knew the system, and could play even if just a little, be kept ahead of those who were noticeably lacking in both experience and talent.

Molden could be OK as the 5th CB + STer, and Barrett or Brown or Diggy
(but def. not all 3) as the 5th Safety + STer.

Our situation at Safety is the laughingstock of the league.

Isn't it a bit early to be dumping all the safeties? As long as Brady doesn't screw the pooch again ala Bills.....Pats should do ok ....BB and the coaching staff will do their analysis and make what corrections they deem necessary....If the Safety position is occupied by a bunch of stiffs with no upside...we should know in a few weeks....

It's a bit early to be circling the wagons IMHO......As my friend Custer once said...there's friendly indians over them thar hills ;)
