There I said it. I would have posted on my original thread, but...
Maddon has done way more with way less. 1/3 the payroll of the boy blunder, Theo, and the guy continues to produce. Sox are done. 4 game sweep underway. Francoma has given us a team of total ****ies. Disgusting.

I think the better comparisons would be the GM's, not the managers.

there is only so much a manager can do. What do you think Madden does better than Francona, specifically?

hard to tell w/o seeing them every day, but I've always felt that Maddon is one of the better managers in the game.

That said, Tampa has very different teams and is a very different market. Maddon may or may not do as well as Francona were he in Boston -- and vice versa.

re. chowd's comment: it's even hard to compare GMs, I think. Beane, for example, was heralded as a genius because of how much he did with so little money, but that doesn't necessarily translate to winning it all if he had a big budget.

If you mean Francona, rather than Fran-coma, Maddon might be better, but I'm not sure. What I am sure of is that if Francona said what Maddon said after a game (We were at a great disadvantage in the game due to the width of our strike zone.), he'd be pilloried for being an excuse-maker. We'll see what type of criticsm Maddon receives, if any.

The Sox have a 170 mill payroll. The rays have a 50 mill payroll. The Rays own the Sox this year and last for that matter. Obviously, the Sox have a better team on paper. Please explain why the Rays make us look so bad. I've watched every game this year. Maddon is smart and aggressive. He uses the shift to eff with our batters heads. He uses hit and runs, aggressive base stealing, timely bunting and pitching changes. The guy is a mastermind. Francoma is a coddling turd who has turned this team into a bunch of friggin wimps.

Tied up. Sox are toast. We need to shytcan Tito and hire Maddon after this season.

i dont think tito is the guy to fire. its theo. man i hope he does go to chicago. jd drew lackey scutarow dice k lugo rentawreck gagne , i know im missing somebody. all theos signings.

Great thinking. Fire the guy with 2 World Series championships.

Maybe we should fire Belichick while we're at it. He's gone much longer than Francona without a title.

On your last sentence specifically, do you honestly think Maddon is a guy who would be a hard ***** with these guys? Because if that is what you think, I just have to say I don't see where that perception comes from. When they were playing the Sox he was interviewed and stated how he didn't want guys to be too serious, or taking extra BP or fielding, or watching extra film or any of that. He wanted to come into the locker room and hear them laughing and joking around and to just "relax and play baseball".

That may fly in Tampa Bay where noone gives a crap when they lose (or win, frankly). But if Tito said that we were literally tie him to a ship and send him out to sea. I think Maddon is better on the field managing, but his temperment would never last in New England. It would be ok when they won, and when they lost it would be "Maddon is a coddling turd who just doesn't take his job serious enough"

One reason the Rays have made the Sox look terrible is because they have 5 pitchers who have the ability to go 200 innings and hold the Sox to a batting average of BELOW .180 as a TEAM...and do it for rediculously low amounts of money. We have inconsistent guys, who get injured.

Scutaro was NOT a bad signing and no way should be mentioned alongside Lackey, Lugo, or Gagne. And JD Drew isn't the best OF in the league but he has been fine over the long term length of the contract. Probably a little overpaid but he has had good defense and OBP while here.

scutaro stinks. hes another in a long line of ss signings by theo that blow. hes got no range. hes a good bench player not a starting ss on the boston redsox. the best thing you can say about drew is he was ok. not what your looking for from your rf imo. he certainly wasn't a good signing. like you said hes over paid. you don't want your gm[theo] dumping that kind of contract on a serviceable OF.

so Tito's an idiot because his #3 pitcher is gone and his #'s 1 & 2 are a combined 1-6 with an ERA in the 5's in September?

Just wondering, did Tito's IQ drop the moment John Lester developed Cancer a few years back? or did it stay up until that Cancer was diagnosed?

Subsequently, did Tito's IQ come back when Lester's Cancer was pushed out even though he was still as weak as a kitten from the treatment or did it stay down until Lester got his strength back?

Someone has got to take the fall for this debacle of a season and this roster of overpaid, under performing ****ies. And I suspect it will be Tito.

i hope francona stays. i would like to see the sox find a new gm.

How spoiled we are in New England that being 18 games above .500 and tied for the Wild Card with 2 games to go is considered a "debacle". The residents of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, would do anything for such a "debacle" to strike their team.

Funny, I can't seem to recall them shelling out 180 million for the privilege of being 5-20 in September.

Apparently your not very old. I lived through the '67 '75 '86 World series collapses plus 50 years of Red Sox failure. Then there have been Millions of people who were born live a full life and died without seeing the RS win a world series. Tito accomplished the mission Twice, you need to get some Real perspective. To constantly complain about the Franco show how spoiled rotten you are. You've probably seen the Red Sox win Two WS and think this is a common occurence, its not.

Injuries and management aside Wolfpack, a team that is in the position to spend considerably more than most of their competitors and bookends the season with 2-10 and 5-20 needs questions asked of the roster, coaching and administration.

People can harp on about being spoilt rotten, prior performances etc. That's all very well but consigned to the past and has nothing to do with today.

they just gagged and puked a 9 game lead away and what? we should be happy? give me a break. the difference between pitt and bos is that people care enough to be pissed and disappointed in boston. it is a debacle:rolleyes:
