His defenses don't fool anyone and over the past couple years has looked like swiss cheese. I mean, you look at all the great coaches and it always seems the game passes them by at some point. We need a Rob Ryan or some other DC like that to shore up this defense.

In a word yes. Belichick is looking at the rest of the league's tail lights in the distance at this point

Wow, you came out and said it. I was too scared to bring this up because of the beating I would have taken. Enjoy the punches.

There doesn't seem to be much of an effort to create pass rush from scheme in a few years. I think Rob Ryan and Rex Ryan are both very good at this. Maybe I'm wrong here...

I don't think so. I don't think we have the personnel to have a good defense.

Goodell's affinity for the Peyton Manning style and his probable deference to Polian, effectively killed Defense as we had known it prior to 2004. BB has not recovered. That said, there are really NO good Defenses in the NFL anymore. It is just basketball on grass, with Defensive players serving as @$$clowns to be posterized by the Offensive skill players. Now they have ZERO opportunity to exact revenge for their ongoing humiliation by hitting anyone...God forbid! That is why Goodell has outlawed the Endzone showboating. In his effed up worldview, that suffices as "fairness". Get used to it people...Football is dead. This is the NFL from here to it's end, which is just a matter of time. The sport cannot continue...it is just too dangerous. Every concussion is microanalyzed to death.

That is why Belichick can't wrap his coaching mind around it. It is foreign to him now. The sport does not resemble anything played by Ty Law. He would get called on every possession.

The nfl did not make Belichick fire out two top coverage safeties with no replacements.

You can't really make this evaluation until a talented defense takes the field. Rob Ryan would not be able to take a mediocre talent pool and make them look like the 2003 Patriots defense.

Bertil also raises a good point. Defenses Belichick coached in the past would be giving up the length of field two times over in penalties with the way the game is called now.

They have the offense to play in the league as it is currently constructed, but they need a defense that gets off the field. You don't have to be the 2000 Ravens to accomplish that.

BB hasn't put as much emphasis on defense since 2004...and coincidently, we havent won anymore championships either. His strategy used to be kick ***** defense is PRIORITY and then score at least one more point than the other guy and walk away with a win. After Romeo left it became "bend but dont break...too much" defense with the PRIORITY on scoring ALOT more points than the other guy. Alright....ill slow u down awhile and take some time off clock....then let u score...because I know I can march right down the field and score on you again. That seems to be the philosophy anyways....

And who is the idiot putting together the personnel having a boat load of draft picks every year? Instead of drafting impact players he keeps trading down picking up scrap heap players like Cunningham, Butler, Brace, chad Jackson, Spikes

Oh let me guess that must be the genius, whose Defense after 3 weeks is on pace to set all time worst record for total yards, passing TD's allowed

Well he deserves all he gets this year. This is at best a 9-7 team, exposed for the frauds they are

Game has past him....It has happened to many - Landry, Noll, Shula, Parcells.

Get the defence sorted and we will be fine. Yes it would be great to have the power to run with the ball more, but at the moment the team is built around Brady.

Philosophy has also been drafting lot of average players. No need to draft impact players. Drafting overall has been pathetic, even more of an indictment given the plethora of draft picks he's hoarded every year.

But you know, he's teflon Bill. Dare anyone say a negative thing about him or challenge his ways.

Who needs Merriwether or Sanders. :rocker:

Wow. Relax...one game at a time. They lost a game because of mistakes to a very hungry team in their own house. There will be adjustments and onto the next game.

He's still the best HC in the league IMO... just needs some legit help in the staff.

BOB has his moments but it happens too often that when the offense has issues, he has no answers and is way too reliant on Brady. Doesn't understand the concept of taking what defenses give you, not nearly enough of a commitment to the run game.

Defense is just a total cluster****. And if you're going to blame personnel you may as well blame BB, he's had multiple offseasons to fix the issues and hasn't. There's still time to turn it around and I'm sure he will, but his decisions to release Sanders/Merriweather/Butler look mighty sketch right now given the play of the secondary.

Agree with you . Outside of Arington name one defense player who played good?

We hate our coach.

I'm feeling very frustrated now, but I'm definitely voting Brady on the importance of Brady vs Belichick debate.
