Tom Curran is confirming a report by Ian Rapoport that the Pats have ruled Patrick Chung out against the Bills. Not really a big surprise considering he just had surgery on his thumb.

Chung will sit out game in Buffalo

Patriots safety Patrick Chung underwent surgery on his right thumb, ESPN Boston reported Wednesday night. Thursday, CSNNE's Tom E. Curran confirmed that Chung will miss Sunday's game in Buffalo, and his status remains touch and go for the time being. Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald first reported that Chung would be out.

The Bills rank first in the NFL in points scored, and Chung has been the most dependable member of the secondary so far this season for the Patriots. Losing him for the game will be a big blow to an already banged-up Pats secondary.

Edit: as of Friday it appears Rapoport and Curran may have received bad information, as Chung is listed as questionable rather than out at this point in time.

Re: Week 3 Pats at Bills Injury Updates: Chung Out

Just frikkin' lovely. I hope that he gets well quickly. He's a known quantity, consistent, and we need him back there.

What a wuss. Put some tape on it and give him some cortisone. J/K . Will miss him. Think he would have had a big game against Buff.

Re: Week 3 Pats at Bills Injury Updates: Chung Out

Next man up will have to do the job. Do we have a next man up at safety?

Re: Week 3 Pats at Bills Injury Updates: Chung Out

Great, soon we will be promoting Ron brace to safety with all that great depth we have.

Re: Week 3 Pats at Bills Injury Updates: Chung Out

Sucks that Chung is out..but I am sure BB will put the best man available out there to do the job. Backups get paid too.

2 words: Lawyer Milloy.

He actually wasn't as bad as you might think last season starting all 16 games for Seattle.

You KNOW he aching to get back here right? :rocker: Give him a shot WTH.

Maybe a certain former Pats safety will never ever play another snap for the NEP, even if he can contribute immediately.

Why?

Spite.

One hundred percent pure, unmitigated spite.

And that's real talk.

I'm more worried about the Bills slinging it around the field than I am running it (despite Fred's great totals last week). Chung will be missed, but I'd rather not have him risking re-injuring a recently surgically repaired body part, just for a Bills game.

The offense is good enough to win a shootout, get healthy Pat.

Re: Week 3 Pats at Bills Injury Updates: Chung Out

Is there a team that has a worse group of safeties than we have right now?

I don't see any

We are going to need that turnover ratio to become as high as it was last year if these injuries stick around,it's a shamble in that secondary.

Let me be the first to say.. GLASS.

Vollmer held out w/ back injury... I hope he is playing Sunday. We are sooo banged up.

You shouldn't be too upset because this might clear the way for your man Solder.

Sign Darren Sharper!

I don't think anyone wants to sign Sharper.

He just left Denver yesterday without an offer (again), it seems as though he either hasn't fully healed, is out of shape, or has just lost too much in the past 2 years...likely a combo of all three.

Plenty of teams have looked at him this yr, yet no one seems to want to even offer him a cheap deal.

Which is also exactly why Meriweather wasn't even traded for a low round pick, and promptly cut to the streets.

I understand that some teams were called (likely the ones that BB wanted to send him to), but I don't buy the notion that 31 other teams wouldn't even offer a 6th or 7th for a first round pick that made the pro-bowl twice, and played in all 64 games here. I do believe that the 10 (approx) teams that Belichick called were not interested, but I do not think that he necessarily went out of his way either.

You can disagree, but I personally feel as though Belichick wanted him outright cut. Not just to prove his point to the team, but also to prove a point with Meriweather himself.

I've been lobbying for Brace at safety for 2 1/2 yrs now :rocker:

While I do agree that the Pats are not in a good situation at safety - even before Chung's injury - I think the characterization that the Pats have the worst safeties in the NFL may be a bit over the top.

You don't "see any"?

Unless one has already taken the time and effort to objectively study and evaluate all 150 or so NFL players that play the position - which I doubt has happened - then I don't understand how you can come to that conclusion.
