Ridley got a few carries this week. I could see him taking a good chunk away from BJGE as the season progresses. He's a more impressive runner from what I've seen. If he can hold on to the ball he'll be a more productive back in this offense.

Re: Under the radar...

I think there are a few players on this team that could be considered under the radar (even some that at first might seem the opposite):

Ridley - As you mentioned, he looked pretty good in his pair of carries, and as the weather gets colder I think we'll start to see a shift towards the run, and thus more carries to spread out amongst the backs. Throw in a minor injury or two, and he'll get some opportunities to make a splash.

Ocho - At first you might think, "How is he UNDER THE RADAR!?" and you'd be right, he's as high profile as it gets. But no one has really had to worry about him yet. If he starts to ramp it up more as he gets it, he'll make some big impacts in games until teams are forced to pay him more attention.

Bodden - I think because his injury was above the waste people have been expecting him to jump in and be just like he was in 2009. But anytime you're away from the game for a year, it takes some time to get your rhythm back. I think after the bye week, we'll really see him get his game together and start looking like the Leigh of two years ago.

Re: Under the radar...

I thought he looked good......on his two carries.

I was surprised they only ran him twice, but I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a number of BJGE's snaps as the season progresses.

Re: Under the radar...

Running backs get dinged up all of the time. I think we'll see him make some key contributions in those games. I don't see him beating out BJGE though. Law Firm gets positive yardage, nose for the end zone and doesn't fumble. Perfect back to close a game out. No need to change that. I think we'll see Vereen before the year is over too. Even though they play the same position. I see Ridley as a backup to BJGE. Similiar skill set. And, I see Vereen(If he can block) as Woodhead's backup. We're very young there and also have quality depth(it appears only saying appears because they're rookies).

I'm hoping ocho can really shine eventually. I'm hoping anyway.

Yes, Bodden's injury was above his "waste" but isn't that unnecessarily graphic?

Bah, I'm a writer too, so that looks especially bad! Above the "waist" rather ;)

Re: Under the radar...

BJGE is the epitome of a "solid" Running Back.

Not flashy, falls forward, rarely loses yards, NEVER fumbles, stays healthy.

With that said, I do hope Ridley and Vereen get more touches. They can help out big time when it's -10 in Foxboro.

I don't see BJGE as a clock killer by any strech. I would love to see if Ridley can get in and pound it before we face the Jets. We need a back and OL that can move the ball on the ground to take the pressure off Brady!

Re: Under the radar...

I really hope we see more of Ridley soon too, he looked real good in the preseason. About to duct tape his name on my asante samuel jersey :D .

EDIT: I have no idea why a 'thumbs down' icon got attached to this post.

Re: Under the radar...

Ridley and Vereen have to prove in practice that they can hang onto the rock before I take away touches from Green Ellis.

You have to think that with Hernandez and possibly Vollmer out, the Bills will see a ton of double Gronkowskis this week on running plays and 3 WR, 1 Gronkowski and 1 RB on passing downs.

That means a lot of snaps for Welker, Branch and Ochosucko.

If ever there was a chance to Slater to have a good receiving game, this is it. Might also be a good game o move him back to safety.

Re: Under the radar...

Ochosucko.

Not only is this pithy and original, but every time I hear it it's more abundantly hilarious than the last.

I prefer OchoStinko because it rhymes. I only wish I could have been clever enough to think of it :(

If there is one thing PatsFans are good at, it's coining insulting names for the players they are presumed to be fans of. Congrats, athletic supporters.

Re: Under the radar...

Don't forget Danny Woodhead. Yes, everyone knows what he can do on the playing field, but he is so low to the ground that I don't think radar goes that low. So even standing on his tipy-toes, I think he is under the radar.

where is shane vareen

Re: Under the radar...

Ridley reminds me of Blount from Tampa

I agree with you more than most of the others.

Just b/c Ridley has shown us some decent runs in the preseason + the 2 touches last week does NOT mean that BJGE will be getting reps taken away, at least not for a while.

I have a feeling that BB likes and appreciates the hard work and dependability of Green-Ellis, and if Ridley did see increased reps throughout the yr, I believe in will be in role/spot play settings. Situational settings etc.

In other words, once again it seems like some people are looking for an excuse to take the ball out of Green-Ellis' hands..for whatever reason.

Should either of the first 2 get hurt, then we'll see Ridley more. If not, I wouldn't expect to see him take more than a carry or two away from each of them, and even that is tough to see at this point.

Re: Under the radar...

Remember that Ridley and Vereen have not been in the system very long, what with the lockout. I like the idea of them learning the playbook, learning how to practice the Patriot Way and slowly integrating them into games. On probably 30 other teams both of these guys would have already seen a lot more playing time already. The Pats have the luxury of bringing both of them along at a pace that suits the franchise. And from past experience, with both Taylor and Morris, who missed large stretches of the last 2 seasons, we know that these guys will be needed as the season progreses.

BB didn't just draft Woody for his playing chops. He also uses Woody as a spy in the opposing team's huddle. Nobody even notices he's there, 'cause he comes in under eye level. :D
