Koppen to IR

Damn,

Per rapaport twitter

I can confirm that C Dan Koppen will join DL Myron Pryor on IR. The recovery was 10-12 weeks, and that was too long.

Re: Koppen to IR

Connolly has played well. I am ok with it at this point. More upset about Pryor.

Re: Koppen to IR

And so it begins. While we've been banged up, we've avoided the major injury bug. I'm just hoping it's not like previous years where we seem to lose lots of players.

Koppen = Starter
Pryor = Role Player

Yet you are more upset about losing the role player than the starter because the back up played well. I can see your logic (one player has been adequately replaced) I just dont agree with it.

I think we are deeper on Dline than the Oline (though that is getting tested with Wright out and Pryor now on IR).

Ditto. Haven't seen any dropoff between Koppen and Connolly.

From the (very) little research I did, it seems like the number of guys IR'd went up a bit last year league-wide, but in general the number has been fairly consistent.

Having said that, doesn't it SEEM like more players get hurt, and hurt seriously, now than they used to? This is based on nothing but a feeling, so I could be (and probably am) wrong. Just seems to me used to be it wasn't this endless thing every week where you held your breath and waited to see which guys would be out for the year. Really sucks.

1. Bigger, stronger players--same old joints and ligaments; 2. Players are smarter about putting themselves at risk-- the old guys were more inclined to play through minor injuries.

I wonder if Koppen means Cannon is progressing.

Hopefully, this is indirect good news per Dowling

I know what you mean, there have always been plenty of injuries in the NFL, however it seems that in the past year or two every team seems to have a fair share of injuries, often to significant players. Perhaps this year you can blame the lockout for the lack of conditioning, however it seems that in the past year or two, nearly every game that you watch someone is lost for the year from one of the teams on the field.

I don't see Cannon playing Center.

Bad news that we are losing players, but you still have to play the game.

Connolly has shown he can replace Koppen and not miss a beat thus far. It may be a blessing in disguise for the Pats since Koppen has been showing his age and was arguably one of the weakest points on the offensive line before his injury. Connolly might prove to be the center of the future for this team. Right now, the only thing the Pats have sacrificed is depth on the interior line.

Pryor was a good pentrating pass rusher and Wright is out indefinitely. Right now there is no guarantee they have someone who can fill that role. Wright and Pryor had different roles than Haynesworth, Love, or Wilfork. Right now, there is no one guaranteed to fill that role.

If anyone should be IR'd it should be Mike Wright, mainly for the benefit of the player.

I believe Cannon can play center. Also, it also becomes a body count.

Getting him means you can be more secure with Connolly at center.

Really? I thought Garay dominated Connolly at times. Then again Koppen routinely got dominated by good DTs too.

Garay is a good player, but I didn't see the Chargers pass rush as being much of a factor at all.

But to your point, it's more of a case of Connolly's liabilities overlapping with Koppen's.

Compared to some of the injuries sustained by other teams in the first few weeks, we're getting off pretty easy if this is it........ I pray it is.

I don't know if there's enough room between the two guards to fit Cannon :eek:
