Whatever happened to Taylor Price? He had a nice preseason before he got hurt, then he hasn't seen the field since?

answered your own question.

Price is the #6 WR behind the 3 big money guys...Branch Welker Ocho....and the 2 special teamers/WR that will make the game day roster every time...Edelmaman Slater

Price will either have to force his way on to the field on Sundays, through strong practice during the week or, by injury. He is buried on the depth chart right now and is one of the guys who was big time affected by the signing of Ocho.
Dude's got size and speed but it is going to be tough, given our depth, for him to see significant playing time this year.
I'd like to see BB working him in a little more each Sunday, provided he earns it during the week.

I like Slater's overall game and what he offers the team, but there is no reason he should be preventing Price from being our 4th or 5th WR other than his ST contributions.

Price is a much better receiver than Slater, and offers a skill set that no other receiver on our team has.

I'm hoping it's solely injury related.

What skill is that? And when have you seen it?

Now flip the arguement and you would be more correct. Slater offers a skill set on special teams that no other Patriot possess which creates very high value.

He's in a very tough position right now. Basically, he has to beat out one of Welker, Branch or Ocho to be active, because Edelman and Slater's contribution to special teams pretty much guarantees them a spot in the active roster come game time.

Chad Jackson and Bethel Johnson always looked good in preseason too

With Slater I think this is true but there are other members of the team that could take over Edelman's role (like Welker) to make room for Price. I think we keep Edelman roster active to back up Welker in case of injury and use him for kick returns to justify the spot.

You don't want Welker back there returning kicks and punts all game. I find it very hard to believe that Bill would be willing to risk injury to one of the most important player on offense just to activate Taylor Price. And also, Belichick would never use Edelman as a KR just to 'justify' his spot on the active roster. That's not him.

Buried under a very deep depth chart....... He MAY (and i stress May) see an active game on Sunday with Hernandez sitting and the likelihood of more 3 WR set's but in the absence of injuries, Price is going to have a hard time finding the field this year.

Welker has already done some returning, this year.

That said, he was just one example. I am sure he is not the only one with the skill set for this.

We saw flashes of it in training camps and preseason games...elusiveness, YAC ability and the ability to stretch the field. Slater's long ball ability is a new wrinkle which is nice. I'm not saying Price should replace Slater, as I recognize his value on ST...

Even on limited evaluation, Price possesses some rare WR skills that we could use.

HIS ST contribution IS THE REASON. ST = 33% OF THE GAME in the modern era (if not more). He is the ST CAPTAIN. Just look at the KO (I think was a KO) last week where he took the SD guy down on the 11. He was all alone - solo open fiedl tackle and he got down there first ON A KICKOFF!!!

Sorry, have to throw the BS flag on the second half of that; exactly what skills other than HEIGHT/40 speed; does he have? Apparently if he can't break the lineup it isn't
a. route running
b. quickness-coming out of breaks,
c. remembering the route tree/decision-making,
d. contributing in some ohter phase of the game.

He is quickly approaching the "Chad Jackson Unbelievable Potential/Very Little Actual Production" bust plateau...

Price is gettig really close to the bust line.

Are you serious? The offense the guy played in in college was something out of 1925. He was required to run a very limited amount of routes, and his main role on offense was blocking, for crying out loud.

He had a great pre-season and has been banged up to start 2011. Sure, we'd all like to see him on the field making plays, but to say he's quickly approaching 'bust' status is asinine at this point.

Hayes, Gabriel, Jackson, Johnson, Nunn.... They all showed WR skills that the team could use. These are top level athletes, they're going to do that.

How those skills translate to real games is what matters, and Price hasn't shown anything yet. When/if he gets his chance, we'll begin to have truly legitimate information to base opinions on.

As you say, the issue is the active roster. Price is a backup WR. We have our top 3. We also activate our returner and top special teamer, who also happen to be wide receivers. No one expect them to get have more than 5 reps between them in a game.

It is POSSIBLE that while Herandez is injured, Price could be activated, giving Brady another target.
