The Patriots were among those adding a third QB when they signed Vinny Testaverde six weeks ago. The 20-year veteran has yet to throw a pass, but has become the human victory cigar in New England. Testaverde took a knee to close out lopsided wins over the Packer and the Texans.

While there’s an obvious 1-2-3 pecking order on the depth chart, Testaverde said everyone has an equal voice when he, starter Tom Brady, backup Matt Cassel, and offensive coordinator/QB coach Josh McDaniels meet to put together each game plan.

Ideas are freely tossed around among the foursome. What sticks is generally the decision of two people.

“The bottom line is ultimately what the coach thinks is going to work and what the guy throwing the ball is comfortable with,†Testaverde said. “From my experiences, we’ve had some great game plans and there were some things I didn’t feel comfortable with, and they never went into the game plan. It comes down to the guy throwing the ball, and it’s the coaches’ decision to decide what to do about it.â€

Now they can really take off on Brady for game planning vanilla without the crossing patterns and quick slants.
