I think he has looked really good out there and has helped to solidify the line.

One of the better offseason signings even though he wasn't signed until September 4th.

He's been MORE than good. He has been as good as any RG we've had this decade. The Pats were very fortunate to get him and fortunate that he still has something in his tank, His play will allow Marcus Cannon to progress at a more Patient pace now. BTW - The reason the Pats have picked up another interior offensive lineman, is that they are happy with Cannon's progress

He's signed for next year too. I think this is going to be the best OL we've ever had once Koppen comes back. We're going to be able to run the ball like we did in 03 and 04. And, still spread you out and shred you in the passing game. 500+ points again folks. Allows us to bring Marcus Cannon along slowly. He's got time to recover from lymphoma. And, he's transitioning to RG from LT in college. Scar can surely help him become a legit RG.

I thought I had read when we picked him up that he was also at one point a backup Center. IF, If that is the case; and we got another RG up to speed I would almost consider moving him as long as Koppen is out. Right now the weak spot on the OL is right over the ball.

You don't want to put Waters at center unless injuries make that absolutely necessary. The center/QB chemistry shouldn't be understated, and Waters probably hasn't shotgun-snapped in a very long time, so that move would be FAR from ideal.

How exactly is that different from my "You don't want to put Waters at center unless injuries make that absolutely necessary." line? Yes, if both the starting center and the backup go down he probably would fill in adequately. He was advocating moving Waters to starting center if Cannon or someone else were ready to play at RG. I don't think that would be the best move.

He's a starting caliber, Pro Bowl OG where we had a back-up playing there last season. Of course I like him.

Given how much better Connolly has looked (so far) at OC, I'd say we're lucky to have him.

Well, there isn't really anything "mini" about those guys.

What do you mean permanent weakness? Neal was a very good player, perhaps the most underrated Patriot in recent history.

Since 2009 was RG and RT a "building under construction". 2010 RT was fixed by Vollmer.

Waters is a great player in his own right, but he brings that bit of veteran savvy which will help Vollmer and/or Solder. On one of the first plays against Miami, you could see him telling Solder to move out a bit and guiding him to the correct distance with his arm. It may be small but I can imagine he talked to him a lot about the little things.

My unprofessional observation was this ... it seemed like more than a few running plays were designed to have the pile pushed right and our RB's went to the left of it. To this untrained eye it was a very nice wall.
