I just got done putting together a database that breaks down the offense by down, quarter, half, direction, etc. and it seems to be working properly so I'm going to open it up for testing. I'm still in the working phase on this, and will be tweaking it a bit. However, hopefully you guys find it interesting:

Full 2011 Stats:
2011 Patriots Stats

Week 1: New England at Miami:
2011 Patriots Stats

Week 2: New England vs. San Diego:
2011 Patriots Stats

I've tested it against the books and went back through to cross reference everything and everything checked out. I'm also adding the number of times in the no-huddle, shotgun, etc., so you'll see that included later tonight. Once I'm done I'll add permanent links on the site and up above in the header, but feel free to test it out and let me know what you think

Just tweaked one thing in the week one file that prevented it from sorting properly, and changed the text in the week 2 file to reflect the correct game. Just checked both and they're functioning properly.

Taking another look - did anyone else notice they're almost perfectly balanced in each zone throwing the football?

Through two games:

Left - 30 attempts
Middle - 29 attempts
Right - 29 attempts

Total: 88 attempts

Maybe it's just me, but no information about what stats we're viewing is showing up. I just see the stats themselves. Otherwise, nice work, good stuff breaking it down like you did.

Let me know a little more about what you mean? Right now it's broken down into passing, rushing, and then by passing to the left, middle, and right side of the field. As you select a field in the drop down to sort by (down, quarter, first half, etc.) Each field changes based on that selection. I'm also adding in the different directions for the runningbacks, along with how many times Brady's in the shotgun, no-huddle, etc. The data's already in the system, I just have to add it to the pages.

You'll also be able to click on individual players and view their performances, although that's still a little ways away. But it should be great when it's done, and it will be available within an hour or two when the games end each week.

I'm also going to go back and do a couple past seasons so that they're there to compare against, so you'll see those also at some point.

Actually I see it now. I tested it in Chrome and FireFox and there wasn't anything that should have tripped IE but it's not showing the background gradients. I'm fixing it now.

Re: PatsFans.com 2011 Offensive Stats Database - BETA

I believe the correct thing to do is to redirect to the Chrome download page if they are using IE :lol2:

(Stats look awesome!)

Re: PatsFans.com 2011 Offensive Stats Database - BETA

There, seems to be rendering now in IE. Let me know if it's working for everyone.

Re: PatsFans.com 2011 Offensive Stats Database - BETA

Also - it will be set up to view these same stats by Home or Away, and by past team's match-ups (for example: if you wanted to look at how they've played against Buffalo both on the road, and at Gillette collectively, etc.).

All the data is already all in there - just have to finish putting it together

Good now! It was simple enough to figure out earlier, but yeah, what I meant was just empty columns where it should say "Attempt, TD, INT, etc.", working perfect now, good stuff.

Very cool, Ian... I'm liking this quite a bit!

if there is anyone better than Ian Logue when it comes to giving Pats fans what they need, I'd like to meet him...thanks for all your hard work over the years...if anybody told me way back when that Patsfans would be what it is today I would have called him a nutcase. Consistency and dedication...the Ian Logue hallmark.

Meh - that's a bit of a stretch, although I appreciate the kind words. I'm always trying to bring some new things to make everyone's lives a little easier, and there's still some other things in the works that will be coming to try and make this place a little better. But there's always plenty of room for improvement, and I'm always trying to make this site a fun and informative place to visit. There's still a long way to go, but I appreciate everyone's support.

Still making some stupid mistakes with some other things here and there with the blog, but hopefully as we get deeper into the season I'll get a little better there as well. :bricks:

FWIW, I did have a glitch in that when it showed overall stats, it only listed Green-Ellis and Ridley as having rushed the ball, but it showed what I think was the correct total # of rushes for all rushers (i.e., including Woodhead).

I like it and it's a tremendous first effort (figuring it will get more complicated over time).

Is there any way to add calculated fields so you could get Yards Per (Attempt, Carry, Completion, ...)?

Awesome stuff! This should be a sticky.

Good find, thanks for pointing that out. I just fixed it and it appears to be working now, and it appears to be sorting properly also.
