Jax is a desparate team playing at home. They are a very good leam that has laid the wood on several other good teams. Their backs are againts the wall.

Yes, they have lost to the Texans twice and Tenn. But, they beat up the Colts and the Jets.

I expect a game with playoff intensity. I do expect a close game but a Patriots victory. Then we can all have a Merry Xmas.

Can't wait for the game tomorrow. With the "excitement" of Christmas eve, this game has the feeling of a playoff game to it.

Hell, the playoffs are right around the corner anyway. And some of the best afternoons/nights of the past 5 years have been those exhilarating (with the exception of the last one) playoff games.

Our offense vs Jagwads D...
Big DL. Very strong against the run. We need BOTH Dillon & Maroney to have a run game. Inside & outside.
Good front 4 pass rush. They don't blitz much but if we go pass formation a lot (I think we will Sunday) they'll bring more blitzes.
Like every other team that causes us problems they'll bring up the safetys (hurting our run) and play the CBs close up to the LOS. It will be up to our ragtag wideout bunch to beat this coverage with some consistency, enough for a couple drives. Bam could be an interesting factor here as well as on STs. Bam may be backup for an ailing Faulk on returns. If Faulk is not hurt and is full speed, he can counter the rush with some screens.
Brady needs time (bring your A game Light & co) and SOMEBODY has to be reliable geting seperation.

Our D vs Jagwads O:
Star RB Taylor out but mini-Drew is fast and hard to tackle. Maybe he's slowed down by injury. Dunno. BIG OL. Strong not finnese. With Wilfork OUT, my man Mike Wright needs someone to spell him at NT. Green can play NT but mostly in a pass D 3-4.
How hurt or healthy is Vrabes? Big factor for the hurtin' run D with Seau gone.
Last playoff we made some big turnovers. Garrard is a good runner and maybe we can disguise our coverages so that Asante can get another pick and price himself totally out of our consideration in '07.
Speaking of which, our DBs are way out-heighted. The Jagwads throw up the long ball and rely on the receivers to out jump and out muscle the DBs. Hopefully, no tacky PI calls against us here.

I also dreamed before the Chiefs game last year that we blew them out...that didn't happen.

Thanks for this thread! I was shocked on seeing the other thread that we will beat them silly.

Reasons why I am jittery:

(1) After the Lions game and the shutout by the Fins, I am not at all confident about our offense.

Irrespective of his fumbles, Ben Watson was/is a solid threat; but even with him, opposing defenses gave us scant respect. With Watson out, and our running game nowhere close to the levels that we fans expected it to be, can our offense step up from the level shown against the Texans? I hope they do but have not seen anything to give me confidence that they will.

Love our defense but feel that Wilfork will be sorely missed.

(2) We are playing in a warm place and I can't help but keep thinking about the Fins game and wonder if we get dehydrated playing in warm places (similar to how indoor teams struggle when they come to Foxboro in winter)

(3) Jags will be out to get us after last year's embarassing playoff loss
(4) Jags need to win to put away their embarassing loss to Titans
(5) Jags need to win to be in the playoff

I just wish no one gets injured and that we win this game - whether by one point or 100, I don't care.

PS: I live five miles from Meadowlands and have got tired of everyone here gloating how great Mangini is (my respect for Mangini disappeared after he interfered in the Branch situation). I really would like to see us wrap up the division tomorrow.

PS2: I would happily ship a six-pack beer to the other poster if his prediction comes true!

That's ok-what I want to see (besides a W) is a virtually mistake-free game by the Pats and more adjusting for the 2nd half than we've seen before.
IMO one of the major problems for this team has been the fact they come into the 2nd the half playing the same way they did in the 1st qtr.
If they struggle the first half that's ok as long as they stay close and come out of the tunnel with a counterattack,then nail it. Here's where BB has it ALL over Del Rio.

Some last day thoughts on this game.

There are some interesting things looking back at 2005 playoff game and this game.

The Jags Oline is about the same ( change at Center )
The Jags have a more mobile QB this year.
The Jags contributing WRs look to be the same.
The Jags have a quicker RB this year.
The Jags Dline is about the same with B.McCray now a starter instead of backup.
The LBs have two new faces plus with Mike Peterson out D.Smith moved fromOLB to MLB
The DBs have 2 changes, CB Brian Williams and SS Gerald Sensabaugh

Jags looks sto be quicker on D and that is probably why they doing so
well against the run.
The secondary is proably about the same as last year. They have some
depth with older T.Cousins.

Jags Offense looks to be quicker in the run game and has added the dimension of a mobile QB.
Their Oling is BIG but not much bigger than Vikes and PATs had no problem
getting to Brad.

This is not the same team. But some of the things are the same. Brady
should have time but will the WRs be able to get separation. Branch
got only 2 catches last year but they may have focused on stopping him
letting Givens and Watson get most of the catches. Faulk played a big
roll last year.
A spread formation may stress the secondary of the JAGs enough to
create some mismatches. Quick smaller WRs could make the difference
attacking their secondary. Maybe that's why they activated Bam. Who will pick
up Watson's yards this year? Thomas? Graham?
If PATs can protect Tom with just his Oline ... the outcome could be
very much like last year.
JAGs are big and powerful but quickness may be their undoing.
Stoping Maurice may be key to PATs win.

ALSO Note: Pats are without V.Wilfork this year but Vince last year was
probably no better than Wright this year. He has improved a lot this year.

Also, PATs will have Rodney and Bruschi this year ... they were using Beisel
last year.
