No timetable on how long he is out yet, but that would be a huge blow to that team if he misses any time.

I said before the season the Jets will miss the playoffs and I stand by it. Look at their next 7 games, they play us twice, Buffalo twice (which now looks more difficult than coming into the year), Baltimore, San Diego and a decent Oakland squad.

Without Mangold for some of that, they could go lose three or four of those games in that timespan. If the Jets do considerably better in that time, I'll eat crow. While our schedule is equally as tough, and maybe harder, we've fared well against comparable schedules for the past decade.

The Jets are incredibly thin. Injuries will destroy them. The past two years they have been incredibly lucky on that score.

If ever an NFL franchise richly deserved failure and futility, it's the New Jersey Green Beans. Mangold's a helluva player, too bad for him and them.

David Harris is reportedly playing hurt and they can ill afford to lose him.

They do have a backup Center-an UDFA rookie Colin Baxter

Hope he is out for an extended period of time. Yeah, I really do. Don't wish anything career threatening on him, though.

Oh, and to the Jets fans that are reading this (I know there are a lot of you), you can only be disgusted by this post if didn't fist pump when Brady went down in '08. So that should eliminate about 103% of you guys.

...who joined the team just two weeks ago after being cut by the Chargers. He should be starting against the Raiders, with DTs Tommy Kelly and Richard Seymour.

How about "I hope the Jets play it nice and conservatively with Mangold, to make sure he comes back 100%. Like, next season." :)

The Jets aren't going to miss the playoffs with their defense. Look at it this way. 6 playoff teams; NE, Balt, Hous, SD, Pitt and Jets. You tell me who will finish better than them? Jax, Indy, Denver, KC, Cincy, Cleveland and Miami are horrible. All could lose double digits. The AFC is really slipping. Tennessee, Oakland and Buffalo are the only ones left. Oakland has no pass defense and Jason Campbell at qb. I think Fitzy is a great story and Buffalo is on the upswing a little. I still don't see them as a .500 team. Only other possibility is the Titans. And, I don't see it.

Yeah, I guess that works too. That's more sensibility I could ever hope to have, though, haha.

He sucks. That team could be fielding an O-line with 3 lousy players (LG, C, RT), and will be facing

@Raiders
@Ravens
@Patriots
Dolphins
Chargers
@Bills
Patriots

as their next 7 opponents. If Mangold is out for any period of time, the Jets could be in trouble.

Jesus, that a tough stretch. If they can come out of that 4-3, they should be setting off fireworks.

I couldn't agree more , he needs to take his time with the injury !

It is a tough stretch, no question. If they come out of it alright, though, they've got it pretty easy the rest of the way. The Patriots need to be up by a couple of games after that stretch in order to take the drama out of the division race.

I was asking for ligament damage on the game thread. Heat of the moment thing, and I was really more pissed off at the Revis Rules(TM) and the Jets getting to play even sucky teams with their best players out and the general suckitude of McClown and Del Rio (how does he still have a job?).

After calming down and becoming classy again (because to revel in your enemies misfortune in not classy - trust me, I've been scolded)... I still hope he misses a long time.

Take your time and get healthy Nick. You want to be able to run sprints when your kids are in high school so take care of those feet now!

See, I'm just worried about his quality of life after football.

Mangold is the best lineman they have. That hurts. The guy is a beast. Best of luck to him on his recovery.

Dude, whenever you are conflicted on whether to revel in another player's injury, just look at this: Steeler-fan site starts "Bernard Pollard Fan Club" - Projo Pats Blog . Works like a charm, every time. Screw class, man, seriously.

Mangold hasn't missed a game since he was drafted, 82 straight.

He could miss up to 6 weeks, though I find that unlikely for a guy like him, still he is signed long term so I hope the Jets give him all the time he needs to heal up for the final stretch into the playoffs and beyond.

It will be an interesting story line for the next 2 to 4 games.
