I can't believe that we can be an elite team with the porous defense that we continue to put out on the field. Historically, we have not had a pass rush or a secondary that puts up a solid effort against decent passing quarterbacks. The lack of a pass rush turns average, and even less than average quarterbacks into Hall of Famers, while our DBs, either through lack of good coaching or NFL quality skills are unable to stifle any kind of passing attack. Today's game is a perfect example of what we can expect to see week after week, except the offense will get shut down and we will end up losing. Do you remember last season? Great season, but unable to win in the playoffs. Get used to it. I love the Pats, but reality is going to kill us.

This thread took way longer this week. You guys are slacking!

On the plus side, there is plenty of season left for the defense to get better. Kind of disappointing to see this lack of pass rush after all the DL acquisitions.

i agree. our defense stinks. HOWEVER, if you look around the league, EVERY defense stinks. its so hard to be a great defense when the rules are so much in favor of the offenses.

i think that the scoring in the NFL thus far thru 2 week indicates that. hopefully we can get better, but i dont see our defense being a shutdown d. but i dont see it for anyone

The practice squad is the perfect cage for you.

No defense was slowing Vincent Jackson down today...no one

The only way you stop this WR is to put heavy pressure on Rivers and get in his face....if you don't,Jackson will destroy a secondary like he did today

If he stays healthy, Jackson will have 1,400-1,500 yards receiving this year

If you want to complain about the defense,it's the anemic pass rush which is pretty non existent right now and with the loss of Wright,it hurts even more.

We gave up 21 points to the Phillip Rivers led Chargers. Sure, they drove down the field quite a few times but we made plays when we needed to.

pass rush was nonexistent again.

This thread? What nonsense!

I can't believe we can continue to be an elite NFL team site and have poster like you starting threads.

Holding the second best offense in the NFL to 21 points is excellent.

Since you can't grasp this, I'd recommend never posting again.

Are there any GOOD defenses in the league through two games? GB has Williams, Woodson, and Shields, not to mention a pass rush, and they've gotten torched as much as the Patriots have.

Rivers isn't exactly average.

Also, Hasselbeck just hung 358 yards on the Ravens defense. Rookie Cam Newton just threw for 430 against Green Bay. Both of those teams will probably be playoff teams. Hopefully things get better, but we aren't the only passing defense letting up video game numbers right now.

Agreed, they made some plays, but they need to improve on third down against good teams.

Our pass rush is poor.

On the plus side, our run defense is solid.

Shockingly enough, the Houston Texans defense IMO,has been the best so far in 2 games

McCourty's making some basic mistakes, and they are killing him in coverage. The idea that nobody could have slowed down Jackson today is just not correct.

I don't have the patience to look up stats, but from what I saw of the Jets and Steelers today was good. We are near the bottom of the league at this point.

I'm hopeful we turn it around, but we haven't the last couple seasons so am not overly optimistic this year.

Shocking indeed. I mean, I expected them to have better defense than last year (could it really have been worse?), but wow. Henne went 12-30 against them today, so you have to wonder if they just took away the short stuff we gave them when we were in prevent, or if he had a more inaccurate game, or if their corners have just played better. Probably a combo of all three.

Man, I remember how the talk was of this beast being in a Patriot uniform in the not so distant past.

Patriots caught a break when Tolbert fumbled the ball. It was a close game until that point.

This is not a championship defense. I'm worried about the Bills for god's sake

The Jets played Jacksonville and the Steelers played Seattle. I think he was more alluding to teams playing actual NFL QBs. Those teams may have the worst QB situations in the league.

But you are right, we are probably near the bottom in passing yards allowed. Green Bay might be right there with us though.
