Dear Bill, put Chad in the Game!!

What do we have to lose?

1. WR production is down significantly this year, as proven in another thread.
2. We have no deep threat on the field anymore. Waiving Gabriel clearly hurt this team (he must have done something very wrong, since he was NOT that bad in an area where we have too few players)
3. Lack of deep threat is hurting everything else -- pass protection, running game etc.

Start throwing some deep balls to Chad, a la Andre Davis or Bethel.
I dont think I can make it through the rest of the season without a heart attack, watching our current game plans play out.

PS the Minnesota game was possibly my favoriate gameplan in pats history. 5 wide til the last play....

Doug Gabriel, Andre Davis, and Bethel Johnson were net negatively productive for the team (negative DVOA).

Jackson may indeed yet work out.

Brady had the one press conference where he indicated Chad hadn't practiced, presumably due to his groin injury, that still left practice time later in the week. I think that was the week Graham and Brady both commented on the type of things Chad needed to do to earn more playing time, and both expressed faith in his ability to perform (even if that was missed by those disappointed with his performance).

BB has been pretty consistent about his policy on practice time and playing time, especially for a rookie, I think it's a lead pipe synch that Chad practiced in order to get what little playing time he had.

You can't put someone in just for the sake of puting him in. Clearly Jackson has not earned a significant role, and it seems he is not yet good enough to have one.

Some people are delusional about the kind of impact he can have. He will not be the savior this season. He will not be the answer. The best options we have are already out there.

Well said, for some reason there is a trend when talking about receivers to talk about their production alone.. I suspect why we have not seen more is that he is not able to make the major league adjustment to being an NFL receiver, for example reacting to blitzes and making the quick route adjustments necessary to be an NFL receiver. When he is able to make the adjustments and can react to the same page that Brady is on, then he will get more throws than he does now.

It seems to me Belichick has this old fashioned view that player has to demonstrate that he has earned the right to get snaps, and play in the games.

If you don't earn it, you don't play. This has allowed him to let players who no one thought were anything, to become unheralded stars. Guys like Gay, Givens, Brady, Wright, Cassel, et cetera.

There is a old-fashioned reasonableness to reward players who show signs of improving. It also lets the players know that he really means the old Shibboleth, that the best players, indeed do play.

It prevents problems in the locker room, on a team with lots of depth and lots of players who think they could play and are in fact quite correct, they could. But also long as he keeps to this reality, they realize he favors no one except performance.

If Brady's favorite receiver is the one that is open; then BB's favorite players that play, are the ones that have proven they play the best, right now. :rocker:

Patience? You know you're dealing with New England fans, right? As with Red Sox fans, patience is not an option. There are a lot of rookies contributing in a major way in the NFL this year, like Marques Colston who even went to Hofstra.

IIRC they have tried that a couple of times in the past few games and he has dropped the ball. He needs to improve his concentration. He has the physical ability, certainly (won the TV "hands" competition, great college/minicamp receiver, etc.). For whatever reason he hasn't done it in a pro game which counts. Could be he is pressing, could be he gets too excited about making a play and loses focus, etc. Whatever it is I expect he will get over it soon but the coaches can only go to him so often until he proves he can perform in games. Each drop of a catchable ball can be the difference between killing a drive and scoring a touchdown.

I also understand that BB doesnt think he should play for whatever reason, guys.

The point is we have NO DOWNFIELD threat. No one who can run past the corner or safety except Chad now. (Gabriel could). So we are getting 8 men in the box and blitzes.

Do you fans really think with my schedule, I have time to read all of these rediculous Chad Jackson threads on a bulletin board? Look, if the kid was outperforming the other receivers in practice, he would be playing more. He's not. I will play him when he can demonstrate to me a consistent level of performance in practice that demonstrates to me that he is ready for game play.
