CBS analyst Charley Casserly was on WSKO-AM 790 Providence at the top of the hour and had a chance to explain the report he had that the Patriots have been stealing signals from opponents. Casserly asserted that his source claimed New England had multiple people in coaching outfits stationed outside the coaching box (which runs from the 32 to the 32) with cameras in hand and were warned to stop by the NFL. The idea, he said, would be to try to pick up audio, rather than just shooting from up above (where you’d be less likely to get caught), where that wouldn’t be possible.
He also helped clarify the Dolphins situation from a couple weeks ago. It was reported that Miami “bought†tapes with audio on them to pick up signals. Casserly said this was likely the raw footage, which can be purchased from the networks and can give you a single vantage point and an audio source closer to the ground.
Then, the hosts played back Bill Belichick’s terse statements directed at the former GM from earlier in the week and the flat denial that he’d heard from the league. Casserly responded by saying, “I have sources that told me (the Patriots) were notified. That’s my response to what was said. I stick by what I said Sunday.â€
