Even his performance changed their view on Brady:rocker:

1) Something To Prove

After the way the Patriots playoff run ended you knew Tom Brady (+15.2) would want to prove something to his doubters. Consider the doubters proved with one of the most masterful displays of quarterbacking you’re ever likely to see. His grade is the highest we’ve ever given to a quarterback, showing just how dominant he was as he orchestrated a complete beat down of the Miami defense,......

He was unanimous MVP last year, who are these doubters?

Maybe Pro Football Focus should get a subscription to a daily newspaper with a sports section.

Agree on Pryor as well. Looks very good.

PFF, since you're catching up on things, I just want you to know, Lindy made it, all the way to Paris!

Legitimate sites liked Brady's performance, too.

Just for a laugh, the writer who ranked 5 QBs ahead of Brady explains his reasoning. One excerpt:

I'm speechless. Throwing into double coverage = good.

Pro Football Focus Explains Why Tom Brady Ranked as 33rd-Best Player in NFL in 2010 Season - New England Patriots - NESN.com

They treat QBing like professional diving as opposed to football. In diving, you get "degree of difficulty" points for attempting a hard dive. In football, you want the easiest route to points.

I actually like most of PFF's stuff, but that particular QB rating methodology & resulting article was a F-ing joke. Set them back a bit in the court of public opinion too. In hindsight, I bet they wish they could take that one back more than a drunken 23yr old sales rep filmed pole dancing at her last office xmas party. :snob:

They are the most quoted NFL scouting and statistical source by both the national and local media by far, but they have certainly and permanently lost credibility with New England Patriots fans.

Their ranking of Tom Brady is illogical and indefensible, at a minimum.

Its not just NE. Reading the comments to their explanation, there appear to be many that are asking for them to change their QB rating system at the least since it isn't sensible. Critical self evaluation is important in any analysis. If they can't take a step back and see that there is an obvious flaw in their system then it really brings into question their integrity.

In case anyone is wondering, here is why PFF is no better than a stopped clock:

Someone asked this insightful question about rankings.

Does it penalize quarterbacks for field awareness and reading the defense? Here’s what I mean: Imagine that Brady and Rodgers are in the same exact play. Brady recognizes the defense and knows that he can complete a high-percentage pass to his second receiver for a short gain. Rodgers, in the same play, doesn’t see his open receiver but instead forces the ball into tight coverage, but completes the pass. I think by your grading system Rodgers would be graded much higher even though he wasn’t as “smart” as Brady. In fact, I think you would grade Rodgers higher even if he occasionally threw an INT in that situation.

The response is basically "Yep."

If you ever hate yourself enough to read comments on PFT, you'll know that Brady would be nothing without Belichick. I guess at some point some of BB's brain tissue was implanted into Brady's shoulder, which accounts for the "probable" designation on the injury report year in and year out. :bricks:

ummmm; aren't you supposed to post the link when you make a reference like that? ;)

PFF is not the "most quoted NFL Scouting and statistical source by both the national and local media". That would be Scouts, Inc and the NFL.

They both worked; one worked better. Chance doesn't exist: Rodgers completed a pass cleanly which got more yardage.

How can you fault them for grading it better? There should be no objectification in these analysis, which you are doing by calling Brady's pass to the open receiver for a shorter gain "smarter" than Rodgers' pass to a more heavily covered receiver down the field.

PFF was the only one, and is trying to make sure we don't remember that...

citation? About 99.999% positive that that's not true.
