when you realize you have to root for a team you otherwise despise?

For example, it's pretty darn obvious that, given the low likelihood of a tie (one tied game in five seasons), I have to root for the D*lphins to beat the JEST. . . .

First of all, it's a soldier's duty to lay it on the line in nasty, unfortunate situations. You suck it up and do it for your family, that the nation they live in remains as free as the one you grew up in. As bad as our situation is, we face it knowing our troops abroad and at home are doing infinitely more hazardous and stomach turning things on Christmas Eve than we are - further, we may face the task of again rooting for the Dolphins when they face Indianapolis to close out the season.

This is for our families, that they may read history and know one team stood head and shoulders above the rest and they achieved that status through the courage and loyalty of fans like us. God Bless America and the New England Patriots! Now get out there and paint baby blue on your buttocks to show your solidarity with Cleo Lemon fans everywhere!

Not a problem at all for me. I root for who I need to root for. I deal with it fine and just go back to the other side 3 hours later.

I'd rather that the Pats took care of business and earned their way in. No doggy style AFCE por moi.

Ill just root for my team the pats, if we have to root for miami because the Pats cant win to get in, then the pats dont deserve it.

rooting for the dolphins or the jets to help your own team into the playoffs is like being your friend's wingman at the bar and getting stuck with someone's uglier friend..

ya do what ya gotta for the greater good, dig?

I, personally, have no problem hating the jesters more than the doophins. :D

Actually I just try to get my shockra's aligned and focus my attention spititually thus eliminating the need to openly root for any one of them.

I would much rather have the Pats win Sunday's game and get in that way, and have the Jets win out to get in. I think the Jets are by far the weakest of the possible wild card teams.

I hate them all, so makes no difference to me how these games turn out. Do not see either one of them if they make the wild card do anything, except provide meaningless banter on the message boards about how good they are and wait until next year.

Aren't shockra's a Tandoori dish?

Box, I was right with you until the buttock-painting part....

maybe, but I bet they could knock Indy out..they almost beat them this year...

a hot shower....gets rid of the feeling...

I hate the Jets more than the dolphins, so I am OK with it.

I would like to see us win the last two games,as stated by other posters, rather than depend on the fortunes of other teams....lets face it,teams that have to have a lot of things fall into place before they earn a playoff spot dont normally go to far into those playoffs....

I am torn, I can't decide which team I loath more, the Dolphins or the Jets, so I'm hoping they tie.
And since I'm hoping, I'd like to see a brawl in the stands where those 20 or so diehard Jets fans, that follow the Jets from town to town, get severely beat upside the head.

Dude, there is no question that all of us Patriots fans want them to win and enter the playoffs through the front door, but didja ever hear of worst case thinking? As for coming in the back door (yeah, sounds dirty), how many people in 2002 weren't disappointed the Pats didn't get in via that entrance?

I am rooting for the Pats to win out. They can control their own destiny. So just WIN and We're IN. That's my mantra and I'm sticking to it!
