Last year was a fluke. He beat up on bad defenses and **** the bed against good or great ones. He is horribly inaccurate, flails around like a little girl when the rush is coming and rarely attempts a pass beyond 10 yards, and when he does, its usually an interception or nowhere near a receiver.

There's a large contingent of Chiefs fans that will never forgive Cassel for being brought in by Pioli. They had their hearts set on Sanchez, and they can't seem to accept that Cassel's been the better QB.

He wasn't terribly great for the first 4 weeks or so. He lit it up in a blow out loss. Even then, he played very conservatively from then on -- but always mistake free (unlike Sanchez). If he has the lead? He's fine. If he's playing from behind, like yesterday? He's really not going to do to make plays to get back in it.

Before his INT yesterday, he had a TD pass, 80-something yards and his QB rating was at something like 92.1. Good right? Well, he was barely doing anything. If it's 3rd and 7, he'd dump to his RB for 4 yards. That's his game. Sort of like a microcosm of his 2010 season. Nice, conservative stats....but not much in the way of actually great play.

Still has poor pocket presence, and locks on way too much.

BTW - I'm on Chiefs Planet. The hate he gets is unfair. Those fans are misanthropic to the core. But as a huge Cassel "homer" who'll give him the benefit of the doubt, I'm beginning to lower my expectations.

He never was terribly accurate in NE and is not a gunslinger. Cassels strength is his mobility and would excel in a West Coast Offense IMO.

The smart move would be to play Stanzi or Palko, because Detroit's DL will hurt Cassel. They ripped the NE OL to shreds.

You are wrong. Cassel isn't the problem in KC. He's not Brady, but few are. What he is is an above average starting QB fully capable of winning double digit games with a solidly built roster and competent coaches running a system he is reasonably proficient in.

Your problem is Pioli made a huge mistake in taking a shot on the golf pro being any more than a guy who got lucky to land a coordinators job on a team with a fairly loaded offense. His ego has exacerbated any shot Pioli believed he had at kick starting a rebuild in KC. Would have been better off in hindsight in hanging on to Herm as a placeholder until he could talk RAC and Charlie in off the street. Instead he's now on his third OC in as many seasons watching his hail mary loosly system related fall back HC candidate using up every inch of rope handed him to hang them both. Haley wasn't with them in Cleveland and he's one of two clowns (Tannenbaum being the other) that Bill had no interest in taking with him when he exited the swamp.

Pioli got tired of riding Bill's coat tails and wanted to prove he could replicate that level on success as a stand alone GM. KC is his Cleveland...and Haley's. Chief's fans don't have a clue what the problem really is... I guess it's easier for them at this juncture to just point fingers at the QB none of the pundits could stand to admit is at least the best franchise prospect to ever come out of the USC program...largely because he never played in it and developed an entitled mentality.

It's only going to get worse in KC because Pioli doesn't have a HC on his staff who can cover for some poor personnel decisions (like the punk WR) and some really bad luck (like losing Moeaki who is as talented as he is injury prone and Eric Berry). Chief's players don't have a bonefide coaching genius to look to for leadership in adversity, they have the annoying golf pro...).

Those are nightmarishly bad numbers, and cast serious doubt on how the Chiefs offense is going to perform without former OC Charlie Weis this season. Cassel is a low-end QB2 bordering on a QB3.

Your post, on the other hand, is just a silly shot. I watched the game. Cassel wasn't the problem, at all, in the first half, and that's when the game was lost.

No, he made a huge mistake in assuming he could recreate the system with little more than a QB proficient in it. He tried to mitigate that when he talked RAC and Charlie in. But he doesn't have the horses on the field or a HC on the sideline capable of running the system. And Haley managed to alienate Charlie to the point he went back to college as a coordinator. Bowe is talented but he drops more balls than BB would tolerate. Tom would freeze him out of necessity. Picked another clunker for Haley this year (who apparently thinks he's some WR svengali...and Pioli does believe a GM's job is to get the HC what he wants/needs - which only works if he's as competent as the only other HC Pioli ever managed personnel for...). It takes as much brains and instinct as talent to succeed in this system. Moeaki was a great pickup, a true all purpose TE, but given his injury history you needed to be redundant there.

Haley has never been accountable, despite his hollow mea culpas. His players sense that. He's an arrogant little prick and a finger pointer. He undercut Cassel from day one and almost got him killed in that first season. He may yet accomplish that goal... That isn't how the system works, and shame on Pioli for essentially going into witness protection in KC. Accountability starts from the top down or it doesn't ever exist...
