Can the Pats Pitch A Perfect Game (Like the Jets Did Last Night?)

I sure hope the Patriots play a perfectly clean game like the Jets did last night - zero penalties for zero yards. That's how you win these games against teams like the Cowboys or the Dolphins with 2nd/3rd tier QBs - give them nothing to build their momentum or stop your own.

With the continuity on offense other than Nate Solder in for Vollmer, the Pats should be in pretty good shape to stay out of penalty trouble. Defense could be a bit different with the re-tooled unit finding their way as a unit. I do like the veteran look along the defensive line for the Pats to un-nerve the Dolphins and play with a minimum of mistakes.

Gotta hand it to Rex for molding such a disciplined group on both sides of the ball. With the Bills picking up where they left off last year croaking the Chiefs, the AFC East looks like it may be the best in football top to bottom. Tonight's game is huge.

That's a pretty unlikely outcome in any game, never mind a game involving a team that from all appearances is not what you would characterize as "disciplined".

I was stunned by that Bills/Chiefs game. I can't figure out if the Chiefs just stink now or if the Bills are legit.

The Jets might not have had any penalties (partially because they let both teams play and few penalties other than procedural were called), but they clearly didn't play a perfect game. There were a lot of mental mistakes by the Jets last night. Not penalty causing ones, but some were more costly.

While watching the game, I saw plenty of non-calls on both sides that would have been called by other refs. The refs kept the flags in their pocket on some obvious holding and pass interference calls. I personally like when the refs let the players play, but I saw plenty of calls that the Jets would have gotten flagged on by most refs in the league (you can say the same thing about the Cowboys). Even most of the Cowboys' penalties were procedural penalites like delay of game, false starts, and encroachment.

Personally, if the Pats come out of tonight's game with no penalties but making some of the same mental mistakes the Jets did; I will not be happy.

To be fair to the Jets, some sloppy play is expected in the first game of the season and even more so this season. I would expect much the same for the Pats tonight with some good and bad mixed. Winning of course hides much of the sloppy play and losing emphasis it.

Once past the emotion of actually pulling another W out of their asses courtesy of an utter 10 minute meltdown on the part of their opponents, the JETS have to be deeply concerned about their team this morning to say the least. If this is how they play disciplined, god help them when they don't.

No, the Pats will not pitch a perfect game (penalties). Honestly, there were uncalled penalties last night. I liked the fact they let 'em play though. I always thought that no touching after five yards Polian-induced rule was stupid anyway.

I watched the second half after that amazing 9-11 documentary on CBS, and it looked to me like the Jets were mauling the Cowboys receivers but the Jets' lines were pretty effective in giving Sanchize time and harrassing Romo-The-Clown. (Tony Romo is just awful - bad decisions and terrible turnovers at the end. Just terrible. To the Jets?!?)

The Pats have their hands full in this division if you ask me. Three good young smart QBs - Henne is 28, Fitzpatrick is 28 and Sanchize is 24 - good coaches and lots of motivation to un-seat the Pats.

The Jets barely beat a team in the 4th quarter that had banged up starting CBs, a gimpy #1 WR and two rookies in their first game on the OL. And only because Romo had numerous brainfarts when it counted most.

The only thing that went well for the Jets was the lack of penalties.

If we play that bad tonight (even without penalties) this place ain't gonna be pretty come tomorrow.

If Tony Romo doesn't play up to his lowly standards (soiling his undies in the 4th qtr) the Cowboys win by at least 2 TD's. The Jets playing a clean game had nothing to do with the Cowboys coughing up a fur ball and throwing away a game they had total control of.

Calling what the Jets did a "perfect game" because they weren't called for any penalties is like saying a pitcher pitched a perfect game because he didn't walk anyone. They didn't hurt themselves, but that game was not one to emulate.
