Considering the slim pickings out there in Free agency and the draft this coming offseason at 3-4 OLB, I believe signing Banta-Cain will be the Pats best option at WOLB for 2007. Signing him before free agency seems wise. He is a solid pass rusher, has excellent knee bend and gains good leverage turning the corner. His pass coverage skills should improve with time, confidence and experience. He is adequate setting the edge. He seems reasonably durable. Banta-Cain can fill the bill.

He's smart, too. One of his sacks this past week, he was covering up the slot receiver and blatantly looking into the backfield. He then feinted an edge run, while the RDE stunted to the outside; a quick cutback and TBC was in Carr's mug and planting him in the ground.

I completely Agree,I have been on the Banta-Cain Bandwagon for some time now,Every time he is put on the field. He Produces. As Simple as that,I didnt realize though that he is a FA after this year?If thats the truth,We need to bring him back..

Like TBC, the only problem I have is Vrabel seems to play better on the outside, and hope the Pats big up some bigger inside guys. With Vrabel and Colvin on the corners, he become situational.. but then with all of our injuries, can never have enough depth.

One thing we do know that whatever happens next year, he can do the job.

TBC is a keeper. But he needs to improve his run D tackling. I've watched him bounce off runners and not make the tackle more than a couple times. His pass rush ability has really shined. Haven't seen enough of him in coverage to have an opinion.

TBC is adequate. The entire issue will be adding speed to the defense. If you don't replace speed with his position then the y better do it at ILB or in the secondary. They need a speed rusher in some form particularly on 3rd downs.

I wish TBC could play ILB. That would be nice. Oh well.

It ain't over yet, there was another NCAA sack leader who worked his way inside...

Agreed, on all points. TBC played a very good game Sunday, which helped make up for the disappearing act he pulled vs. Miami. Let's hope that he can put up 2 in a row vs. Jax.

There is nothing like the coach going to a 4-3 and relegating you to reserve status against Miami to make a player disappear...C'mon Stoney, you're losing your situational awareness, let's not be pulling a Gabriel! ;)

I don't mean that he literally pulled a disappearing act. I tend to key on TBC when he's out there, and he was constantly pushed away, by one blocker, on both draws and passes. He was neither strong enough, nor quick enough, that day.

Have no fear - the Captain is always aware of the situation...

I hope they sign Tully.

And I hope they sign a monster pass rusher. We don't have the 4th overall pick, but we need more athleticism at linebacker.

It's not like their aren't plenty of slots to fill now and in the future.
