That's right. We already let a starting QB go for a mere 2nd who I believe made the probowl as an alternate last year throwing 27tds and 7 ints. Sure it was the 33rd pick which is almost a 1st rounder but still, if anyone knew how good Mattie was gonna be they would of easily handed over a top 15 pick.

As far as I'm concerned he is a giant piece of the franchise's future and trading Mallett should be weighed considerably regardless whether he was a 3rd round pick or not. Why not let the Colts suffer for their mistake of not grooming a QB?

The main reason Cassel didn't net a first was that whoever picked him up would have to take his franchise tag with it.

I tend to agree with this mentality. This is why you force a desperate team to pay overs if something does eventuate.

the whole idea is numb. many athletes have had this surgery and recovered to play again. If Mike Alstott can pound the pile after this surgery surely peyton can toss a football.

When you are looking at a fillin for one year, as the colts are, you look for a vet, not a rookie.

If cassel hadn't worked out in 2008, would you want the pats to have traded for a rookie for the rest of the season? Or a vet?

I don't think Mallet's done anything to be considered an heir at this point, it's not about letting the Colts suffer, it's about putting the Patriots in the best position to win, if the Colts offered a 1st and 3rd for him I'd take it in a heartbeat. Maybe we can trade that 3rd to KC and grab Ricky Stanzi:rocker:

Second third party source is now also saying #Colts have Inquired about the availability and price of Ryan Mallett. No official confirm yet

Your right. All we have has seen out of the kid is one of the best performances by a rookie QB this preseason. And 1 game against Detroit that everyone would like to forget. It's not much to go on but I think he's looked very comparable to some of the top QB's taken in this years draft. Everyone knows they messed up if they needed a Qb by not taking Mallett.
I'll take my chances with this as him being a good replacement.

The Patriots already have 2 first round picks next year. If the Colts were to offer their first for Mallett, I'd suggest we all help him get out of town.

Package the picks, plus anything else needed, for the #1 overall. Get Luck (assuming his play continues to back up the accolades). Let him learn behind Brady.

Manning's job requires precision, Alstott's did not, they're also different injuries. If Manning can't get the ball downfield quick and/or accurate enough he's done.
