Patriots OL Brian Waters To Wear #54
By: Ian Logue

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reported this morning via Twitter that newly signed offensive lineman Brian Waters has been assigned his jersey number, and for those of you scoring at home he'll be wearing #54 - Tedy Bruschi's old number....

Sacrelidge...!

Pats must think highly of him. Or he just asked Tedy and he said yes.

I say give him another number and retire Bruschi's number!!:rocker:

Just read the article. I'm glad Tedy Bruschi and I see eye to eye on the issue of retiring numbers. It's just a dumb concept that's borderline-superstitious. There aren't enough numbers to go around.

:(

I understand him wanting his career-long jersey number, but 64 was available, couldn't he take that instead?

But I know we can't keep retiring jersey numbers. Same way I don't like seeing another #80, or another #37. Do we have another #4 yet? We need to hurry up with that. One thing I can guarantee is we'll never see another #12 after Brady calls it a career.

12 will get retired.

There's always the triple digit jersey !!!!!!!!!!!

Retiring numbers is just not practical with the way numbers are sorted by position in the NFL. I love Bruschi as much as the next guy, but 54 should be worn.

Hannah and Tippett along with Brady when he retires should be the only retired numbers. Make Pro Football HOF and entire or majority of career with Pats the prerequisite. The Pats have too many #'s retired.
