I'm hearing rumors on Indy message boards- Peyton to IR

I'm a Pats fan, but I would not want to see this. I'd rather beat them straight up.

It would be interesting, however, to see what they can do without him. 11-5 like the Pats did?
Pats went from 16-0 to 11-5 without Brady.
Colts were 10-6 going 5-11 would be the same dropoff

Why would they put him on IR. Wouldn't it make more sense to put him on the PUP list then re-assess after week 6?
He practiced, cant go on PUP.

Manning will come back from injury, play like crap for a while, but everyone will make excuses for him because he's still recovering and hasn't had time to work with the other players, and then he'll play better and eventually be back to his normal self.

He'll have an average year by his standards, nowhere near top of the league, look absolutely awful on the field at times, but the voters will go nuts and engrave his name on the MVP trophy weeks before the votes are due.

Oh wait, that was 2008.

Well might as well go put some money on Manning for MVP, since the media has probably already decided to give it to him...

Good question, is he eligible for PUP? [edit: posted this prior to seeing the responses above, please disregard]. As far as I know he hasn't practiced at all this pre-season, has he?

Regardless of how much we may detest fans of rival teams, their players and their GM, as a football fan I would still much rather see Manning out there healthy and playing.

No, he was on PUP and was activated. At this point it is either play, sit, or IR.

Setting him up for comeback player of the year.

It would not be good for the NFL for such a major player to exit the scene for the year. Albeit others would help fill the vacuum, but it wouldn't be the same.

John Michael Vincent of ESPN 1070 Indianapolis reports Peyton Manning will need to undergo another procedure on his neck.

Manning will reportedly be out "indefinitely." Vincent has heard from multiple sources, but he's yet to receive confirmation from the Colts. Adam Schefter's report that the organization is preparing to go forward with Kerry Collins as the Week 1 starter does lend some credibility to this report. If true, it's a major downgrade for all of the Colts fantasy players. Collins lacks accuracy and mobility at this stage of his career.

John Michael Vincent starred in Airwolf so he knows what he is talking about.

In all seriousness, I hate to see this happen. The league is better with Manning in it. The Colt are probably regretting giving him his long term deal. Right now, this could be career ending as much as season ending. Three neck surgeries in a little over a year's time is not something that can be good for a career.

Or his retirement party. Three surgeries on his neck could spell an end to his career.

Well, that is too bad.:( I certainly know how it feels to have the air let out of a season before it really begins. Hope for a speedy recovery to Manning if this is indeed true.

They already took him off PUP so he would have to go on IR next.

Actually it would end the look what they did with Cassell bs argument.
Pats went from 16-0 to 11-5. If Colts go from 10-6 to better than 5-11 the dropoff wasnt that bad.
With all the weapons they have put around him an average QB could step in and look pretty damn good.

Perhaps we'll disagree on this, but if Manning is out, the Dolts will be lucky to win 4 games. More likely 3-13 or 4-12......

lol

im calling it now. Manning will make look Favre like a humble man. Every offseason the same from now on.

Or they could just carry him as inactive for the season and only use him for the playoffs where he would be of the most value...

(oops, guess I got that backwards!)
