Finally.

As if the business of player transactions didn't keep officials at Gillette Stadium busy enough today, the Patriots tried out longtime Chiefs guard Brian Waters today, a league source confirms.

It is believed the team won't let him get very far and will sign him.

Waters, who is 34, went from undrafted free agent with the Cowboys out of North Texas in 1999 to five-time Pro Bowler with Kansas City, where he played from 2000 on. He was released on July 28.

Waters was also a two-time All-Pro and the 2009 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year for his excellence on the field and community contributions off it.

Dan Connolly suffered an ankle injury against the Lions in the Pats' third preseason game, and with Rich Ohrnberger now on injured reserve and potential guard Marcus Cannon on reserve/non-football injury list, the team is thin at guard.

He was a TE in high school so maybe he can lobby for the Vrabel-esque role in goal line situations.....if the other former TEs like Solder and Ninkovich will let him..

huh, so we have moved on from "Can he rush the passer" to "Can he play safety"

I'm still scratching my head on these TE and safety moves as well as why BB doesn't like the first name Brandon

i like this alot

Eh... I don't care for this all that much. But I can tolerate it as I doubt what we've got there now is any better.

I would like this move very much. Do we still have people insisting that we're fine at guard as is, or can we all acknowledge that the guys we have won't cut it and a move should be made in the near future?

He'd been struggling in K.C..

Let the workouts and interviews begin. We need one or two veteran interior offensive lineman, and a blocking TE.

sounds like it was more than a workout with Waters - league source says #Patriots were talking contract with him today

Waters is decent at this point. Not the ideal option, but an uppgrade over what the Pats have. He is a long way from his Pro Bowl days, but he is better than Ryan Wendell and probably Connelly.

The one thing is Scarnnechia has gotten the most out of journeymen and washed up players in the past like Andruzzi, Compton, and others. He might able to squeeze one more decent year out of Waters.

This also would seem to mean that either Gurode's not playing for the Patriots this year or the team's going to carry 9 offensive linemen, because I don't get the impression that Maneri is going to be cut loose.

Of course, I could be misreading Mr. Maneri's security...

doesn't Gurode have knee stability problems?

The KC OL is pretty bad and they let him go.

Im with you on holding my nose about Waters.

Pro-Bowl G Brian Waters and Patriots reached an agreement that will give NE the help it has been seeking at right guard. More at ESPN.com.

Just signed per Reiss. Twitter

Schefter: Pats sign Brian Waters

So there you go

Thing is everyone and everything has been struggling in KC. For what we need from him he may be fine.

This is not a true statement. KC had issues at the tackle positions. Their interior has been stout.
