Many consider this team to be a SB favorite.

On a night when Belichicks drafting and personel decisions are being questioned by many, if this team were to win the SB after turning over 46 of the 53 players from the team that had the undefeated regular season 4 years ago would that represent the greatest job of building a team in NFL history? And would it be worth the sacrifice of 3 years of no playoff wins in between?

Defensively the only player remaining from that team is Vince Wilfork. Anyone questioning the performance of the defense the last 3 years while it was totally (but for one man) replaced needs to reconsider.
Its also interesting that 17 of the players that made the team on defense and 15 on offense were not in the NFL that season.

It is a tad misleading because Faulk is still on the team, just a part of the PUP list.. But the Pats have been rebuilding over the past few years.

It is a tad misleading because Faulk is still on the team, just a part of the PUP list.. But the Pats have been rebuilding over the past few years.

He isnt on the 53 man roster. How is that misleading? Would 8 instead of 7 have any impact on the point?

Damn. I counted 8 the first time through then couldn't find the 8th so figured I miscounted. Again, doesnt really change the concept.

Any of you guys who correspond with Reiss want to send him the fact and ask him to compare it to the other 31 teams? I bet he could (and would be willling to) do the research.
I also bet he would write an article about only having 8.

It's a remarkable stat......... to be honest........ when you couple it with the other one (32 on this team weren't in the NFL oin 2007), it's even more impressive.

And yes, a SB win this year would go a long way in soothing the pain of the last few early exits. Not all the way though.

For a team that made the Superbowl, it's incredible turnover. But leaguewide, teams in genuine rebuilding mode that bring in new management with a new philosophy can turn over rosters in a hurry.

I chose KC as an example to look at, and sure enough I only counted 5 Chiefs left from 2007 -- including the punter:

So who was on that team that we'd want back, given who he is today, at, say, a $2 million salary/cap hit or above?

(I edited out "if money were no object" because we might want lots of guys back for depth at vet minimum, including both safeties who were just cut.)

Seymour, definitely.
Ty Warren? Maybe not.
Gaffney or Stallworth? I haven't kept up with them.
Asante? Sure, drawbacks notwithstanding.
Cassell? Sure, but as a backup.
Lonie Paxton -- for the money he got, yes, but not for $2 million. (Um, is he actually still good?)

So we've lost 2 important franchise tag guys and one of the best backup QBs in recent league history. But otherwise the turnover you mention has been almost all voluntary on the part of the team.

It is just like you to get your panties in a wad over a slight correction. God forbid you take that Faulk was there too and will be by the end of the season and move on instead of making a big deal out of it.

Fact is the number is actually 9 (as Patchick also pointed out Mike Wright). Does it make a lot of difference? No. That's why I said a "TAD".

Wow... very interesting stat. Everytime one of the few remaining guys from the '01 team goes (still 3 left!), I cringe a little, but I didn't realize that there were so few even from '07.

What would make it mind boggling would be if turning over all but 8 players from a 16-0 led to a team that realizes its perception as a SB favorite.
Its not just the turnover its the turnover from at or near the top of the league to a similar spot. "Remaining on/near the top" with almost total turnover is what I find mind boggling, of course they have to play that way/

Nothing in my response indicated I was upset at all, not to mention your lame attempt at describing it humorously in your typical method of trying to throw an insult at anyone who choose to post.
Perhaps if you posted a fact instead of calling it misleading there wouldn't have been a response necessary, but then you don't even know you come off as an @ss in 90% of your posts anyway, so maybe I should just chalk it up to your personality.
