During his interview on WEEI today Belichick was asked about Chad Jackson and his 19 appearances yesterday. Belichick replied that he was only in for 4 plays and at that he was not the primary weapon.

Fred or DeOssie said the reporter was certain he was there for 19 plays....to which Belichick replied "Yeah, most of those were running plays and stuff like that."

Call me a fool but I believe this was a calculated move by Belichick. Perhaps realizing that Jackson has more to give .... which is a Belichick specialty ... sitting the bench and/or being put on the injury list is not doing the trick .... relegating him to scribes status on the field is an ego bruiser for some players for sure .... let's hope it works.

hard to tease a player not getting in a game .... that could help or hurt depending on the player....much easier to tease a player with "were you really on the field" jokes by the veterans.

BTW....Love that game after interview with Belichcik....he is very at ease with the Big O, Fred & DeOssie. Granted, lots of softball questions but it's still fun to hear Belichick talk football which he usually does not do with the general media.

I didn't get the same impression of the conversation you did. BB agreed that most of the plays Chad participated in had been running plays, but went on to say [paraphrase]that he is confident in Chad, that Chad's time will come, and that much as everyone doubted Cory Dillon's ability to carry the load the last few weeks and Corey had proven them wrong, Chad would do the same. He added, Chad will catch his passes and play a larger role in the future, it's just last week wasn't his week for that. All in all, very encouraging from BB regarding this prospect so disparaged and vilified by many "fans".

Good post...right on target.

Disparged and vilified with no reason IMO. There were many in the NFL that felt that despite his huge potential, Chad was not ready for the NFL...thus he slipped to the 2nd round.

There were more than a few Patriots fans who were well aware that Jackson needed some work to be ready to play in the NFL. We had seen this with Graham and Watson to name a few. So, why did we think a 2nd round pick would play right away??? Belichick never, ever gave this impression to us.

Add to that the absolute solid system of earning your play on this team...no player hits the field based on potential...we have not seen this form Belichick since he came here and I doubt we ever will. The only players who have bypassed this system are players like Koppen who were pressed to play due to injury.

Myself...I have no problem Chad has not played much this year...in fact, if i didn't see him until next year I would be fine with that. Players in this system always come back more physically fit both mentally and physically the 2nd year...of course they still have to earn their play and some have not even though they look the part that much better like Bethel did.

If it were uip to me I would ban negative talk about draft picks for at least 1 year....but it's not up to me and so we read all these "Bust" threads...too bad really ... especially considering none of us could ever even hope to be drafted or even know all the sacrifice it takes to play the game. Lots of sacrifice to have 3 or 4 balls thrown your way each week...sometimes only 1 or 2.

Given Jackson's injuries, it is too early to call him a bust. Given the recent production from the WR's , however, you would hope he could contribute a few more catches. Anyway, if he can stay healthy next year, hopefully he proves everyone wrong.

I think what concerns a lot of fans is the perception that the kid is not trying, or simply not getting it. With the front office's knack for drafting character guys, you have to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that this is not the case with CJ. Although they did wiff on Bethel though.

I stillbelieve, and I will say it again...I dont think the problem is with the wide receivers, as I think we have a pretty good group. I believe the problem, still, is with the routes they are being given to run....and the fact that, for whatever reason, the plays do not have much play action in them which would give the QB, and the receivers, just that extra second to make it work.
Idiot.
Oops, can't just post one word - not 10 characters. So we'll edit to:

There, that's better.

I'm not here to defend anyone but we are all part of a community here and I think we should give everyone regardless of who it is, some respect. Besides, posts like this say much more about the poster than the target.

Totally unnecessary ... if you don't have an opinion of the thread title then you are ruining the thread.

??????????

You said this, you said that, you did this, you did that...

Waaaaaaah. This is garbage, no you're garbage. Your posts are crap, no, your posts are crap.

ARE THERE KINDERGARDEN COPS AVAILABLE AROUND HERE? Frickin Babies.

We can wait and see. When it comes down to decision about the patriots is our coach. Think coach knows when a player is ready or not.

??????????

Believe me, in that thread, that post was definitely appropriate. There were lots of people acting like little kids and they needed to be called out just like you were acting like a child with your "idiot" posts.

Hijacking a thread shows your ignorance arrellbee...take your grudges to the IM's and leave threads to the topic at hand.

F.B.N. go back and take a look. It was NEM and the "blame the O.C. without actually mentioning the O.C." commentary that was the hijack attempt.

and of course we have IM's to moderators to complain about others.

Us longtime members here know NEM likes to get a zing in here and there in a thread if he feels it is even remotely related to the thread title... if it's just 1 or 2 there is no harm ... and it is opinion related to the thread.

NEM's been here since day 1 ... and many forums have some respect for that...I wish this forum did. I have respect for that and respect for NEM even if others do not. Perhap's NEM doesn't always come across the way others feel he should....I could care less ... his good has way outdone whatever bugs anyone....his opinion is his right as a fan and a member here, those who don't like it or don't agree can respond in kind or move on...but to reprimand NEM is rude

Making multiple posts to call people idiots and whatever is childish and rude to the thread writer and to members who have to read that crap....2 wrongs don't make a right and calling other members names is a waste of everyones time.

If arrellbee has a problem with NEM ... then use the avenues provided is my opinion...perhaps if I hijack his threads he might understand this thought a bit better....especially when the thread is ruined beyond repair.

Ask BB about marquise hill and he will say the same thing ...he rarely talks bad of his players even after releasing or cutting them, i see no reason he would say anything -ve about jackson because he says the same thing about everyone

Once again a thread about a player, Chad Jackson, and BB's comments descends into the crapper and becomes a thread about NEM, his comments and his right to post them. Ughh!!!!

EVERYTHING can be related back to the offensive/defensive coordinator in football, if you want it too. The defense looks slow? It's because the offensive coordinator is calling plays that result in the offense not taking time off the clock. A rookie (ROOKIE) who missed training camp is having a lost season? It must be because the O.C. isn't calling the right plays for him. It was NEM hijacking yet another thread I was interested in posting on, nothing more.

Oh, please. NEM is plenty rude on his own. Sauce for the goose. And for you to defend him is to enable that. NEM may put a little smiley face at the end of his post, but it's still saying the same things.

Arrellbee made one post about it on this thread and was chastised by multiple people, including yourself. If you really cared to keep this sort of thing off the board, you would have contacted Arrellbee via pm instead of posting it on the thread, so what's that about two wrongs and a right?

Assuming Chad is healthy - and I'm assuming he is - the team NEEDS him to get involved - but Sunday's screen pass happy day (in part to supplement the run in Maroney's absence) meant that it wasn't in the cards for Jackson to see a lot of passes come their way.

Then, once they'd run up the score, tossing some long bombs might not have gone over all that well - could have been viewed as rubbing the Texans nose in a tough loss

But still, Chad needs the reps - and I'd think that even having Cassell throw some deep balls his way wouldn't be viewed as anything more than giving guys some reps... so I think they should have used the opportunity to send some more balls Chad's way.

So I don't think he was being punished by being on the field and not having the ball go to him - I just think the long ball wasn't in the game plan at all.

Here's hoping he'll do something when given the chance.

You are engaging in wishful thinking. You so wish this player to fail that any evidence from the coach to the contrary you dismiss as a lie. There was no reason for BB to cite Corey Dillon's ability to prove the critics wrong, and statement that Jackson would do the same. He could have left it at, "he's progressing, etc.". Your bias against this rookie has so colored your thinking you can't distinguish noon from midnight.
