Marcus McNeil 18th pick- stud Left tackle, who has been sensational for SD

Greg Jennings 20th pick- fine WR for GB

Devin Hester 25th pick- tied all time record for rookie KR's for TDs for touchdowns

Face it the Patriots whiffed big time picking Jackson instead of McNeil.
He could have been our stud LT for the next 10 years.
Maybe BB and Pioli listened to much to the Urban Meyer hype

Why don't we give the kid a chance before jumping to conclusions like this.

Sure we all want him to be Jerry Rice today, but let's wait til we see him out on the field free from injury before we throw him under a bus.

And there you have it. Never before has any player ever had a decent career after having such a poor rookie year. And never before has anyone ever had a good start to their career and then tailed off.

Every career can be drawn linearly from start through growth to peak through declining to retirement.

It's quite simple really.

Stop it... stop it... stop it...this kind of retroflection is like who you could have married instead of your present spouse... there's no profit there... this way lies madness.

You're right... Pioli and BB, they don't know what the **** they're doing. Too bad they took Seymour over Terrell, or that dope Ty Warren. What a bust he was his 1st year, the #14 overall pick. Are these posters piling on Chad Jackson really Pats fans, or just recent Red Sox crossovers? They're making me physically ill, turning Jackson into their "whipping boy" the same way they jumped on Willy Mo Pena. They constitute a mean spirited, premature "lynch mob". Read into that what you want.

so teams should only draft guys who end up being good players? brilliant! i can't believe some team hasn't hired you for their front office.

These threads are about as tiring as the calleers on WEEI... we do not know how Jackson will look when gets on the field full time.. woulda, shoulda, couldof is all a bunch of BS... give him a chance, he might be the guy we need to stretch the field.

Yep, these "we could have had" threads are stupid. When some GM claimst to be perfect we will expect no more mistakes. Let's grab Colston in Round 6 instead of Mincey, btw. while we're at it. Why stop with Jennings ?

And we could've drafted Jerious Norwood with our 3rd that we gave up. Ohh well sometimes you lose a gamble, but there's still time to turn things around.

Marcus, I apologize in advance for what I'm about to do - take out ON YOU all of my frustration with posts like this one. You are being a child. Impatient. Short-sighted. Might I say...stupid. Ignorant. Embarrassing. Silly. Troll-like. A loser.

This goes for all of you with this junk. Find a new site. A common one. This place is meant for better minds than yours. Again, I apologize - but not really.

Have a nice day.

I remember how brilliant all those teams were who passed up Big Vince, who was a consensus top 10 rated palyer. He dropped to #21 and the patriots picked him then Ben Watson at #32.

For a team that doesn't know how to draft players, the Patriots got lucky on that one.

Check out what Reggie Wayne did his first year. As I recall, many thought that the Colts mad a mistake with him.

Yep, a mere 345 yards. And he was healthy.

You know what? The Colts could have had Marvin Minnis over Reggie Wayne. The Jets could have had Minnis over Santana Moss too. Sounds stupid doesn't it? Except in the 2001 season after they were all drafted, Minnis looked to be like the Superstar in the making and Wayne and Moss looked like draft busts.

Give it time. You can't judge a rookie WR after one year.

Chad Jackson has obviously been a disappointment this year but

before we jump off a bridge let's give him another year. We must remember

that for every wide receiver like Deon Branch who can play in the NFL

right away, there are numerous others like Chad Jackson.

Give Chad one year in thiere off season program .

McNeil? He'd be on the bench behind Light and Kaczur (assuming O'Callaghan wouldn't be drafted too)

Hester? Can he even play CB?

Jennings? With that nearly non-existent WR corps in Green Bay, any rookie WR would have a chance to shine. Except those that, you know, happened to have gotten INJURED and haven't had a fair shot to show their worth!

...

I'm excited with the base of the WR corps next year being built on Caldwell, Jackson, and possibly Brown. Add in whoever comes in through the draft, a trade, or free agency, and the obvious 3-4 options at TE, and Brady has a young and rebuilt receiving corps to work with.

Look we could have also had anyone of the following players, as well as anyone who wasn't drafted.

21 118 Stephen Gostkowski Patriots K Memphis

You know, it's a dang shame we didn't get Gostkowski. :D

I get the feeling you can add Gaffney (who's signed through next year) to that based on Belichick's comment today (from the Herald blog) :

"Jabar Gaffney drew high praise from Belichick. “That was a good addition for us,†the coach said. “Through his experience and understanding of the passing game and terminology background from Houston, he picked things up very quickly.â€"
